The glass igloo of Isenthal

With a diameter of 3.6 meters, the igloo offers plenty of space for relaxation and comfort. Inside, a large double bed (180x200 cm) awaits you, with a cozy blanket and two decorative cushions to keep you snug. A small table with two stools invites you to wind down at the end of the day. If you prefer to enjoy the starry sky outside, there is a wooden table with two stools in the outdoor area—perfect for breakfast in the morning sun or a glass of wine in the open air.

There are toilets with running drinking water right next to the Alpstübli, so you won't miss out on any comfort. And if you arrive in autumn or winter, an electric blanket in your bed will keep you warm and cozy as you gaze through the transparent roof at the sparkling night.

At Gitschenen, you can treat yourself to a delicious cheese fondue in the Alpstübli or a multi-course dinner in the mountain restaurant. Breakfast consists of fresh rolls, croissants, alpine cheese, and hot drinks, which can also be enjoyed in the mountain inn in winter. On rest days, there is a breakfast basket that you can enjoy in the glass igloo.

Because there are no shopping facilities at Gitschenen, you will need to purchase everything you need in advance. There is a small village shop in Isenthal with limited opening hours.

The area around Isenthal offers a beautiful natural backdrop with mountains, forests, and alpine meadows—perfect for hiking and relaxing in the peace of the Alps. From leisurely walks to challenging mountain hikes, there are countless ways to explore the landscape here. Nearby, Lake Uri invites you to activities such as swimming, boating, or simply enjoying the view. Mountain bikers and climbers will also find exciting routes in the region. In addition to nature, there are small, charming mountain inns where you can taste regional specialties. Cultural discoveries, such as traditional chapels or alpine farms, complete the experience. Here you can truly get away, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and fully enjoy the beauty of the Swiss Alps.

Please note the travel options: Gitschenen is a car-free sun terrace high above Isenthal, which you can reach by cable car from St. Jakob or on foot. There is free parking at the cable car valley station, and the Postbus also goes there (check the timetable). Cash payment is required. The glass igloo is located right next to the Alpstübli at 1,550 meters and is a three-minute walk from the mountain station. If you prefer walking, a hiking trail of about 1.5 hours will lead you 580 meters up in altitude.
