Dive into history with the dolmens

The dolmens are prehistoric megalithic structures, and perhaps the most famous sights in Drenthe. They were built during the Neolithic period, about 5,000 years ago. There are 54 hunebeds in Drenthe, the closest of which is a 12-minute drive from the campground. These national monuments provide a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of the prehistoric peoples of the Netherlands, and they continue to capture the imagination of visitors from around the world.

Butterfly

Go on an adventure at Wildlands Adventure Zoo

Wildlands Adventure Zoo is a half-hour drive from the campground. The park is divided into three different areas: Jungola, Serenga and Nortica, each with its own theme and animals. Trek through the jungle to a temple where thousands of butterflies fly around or cruise across the water past swimming elephants. Or take a boat ride through a mangrove forest, on safari in a jeep or on a roller coaster, the "Tweestryd."

Pull into national park Drents-Fries Wolde

The National Park Drents-Friese Wold is a beautiful nature reserve on the outskirts of the campsite. Covering an area of over 6,000 hectares, the park is characterized by vast forests, heathlands, sand dunes and wetlands. It offers a network of well-marked trails for hikers and cyclists of all levels. There is rich biodiversity with more than 1,000 different plant species, including some rare species such as the sundew and cranberry. Enjoy various outdoor activities such as horseback riding, mountain biking and canoeing. The Drents-Friese Wold National Park is a beautiful and peaceful nature reserve that offers the opportunity to get in touch with nature and experience the beauty and diversity of the Dutch landscape.

Discover the Prison Museum

A 25-minute drive from the campground, in Veenhuizen, you will find the National Prison Museum. The museum is dedicated to the history of prisons and the penal system in the Netherlands. Through exhibits, you can learn about the lives of prisoners and the different ways they were punished throughout history. There are also interactive exhibits, such as a simulated police interrogation and a "jailbreak." It is also possible to tour the nearby prison complex, which is still in use. The Gevangenismuseum offers a fascinating and educational look at the history of crime and punishment in the Netherlands and is well worth a visit.

Really a shame to stay here . We went here with our family ( 2 adults and baby of 8 month ) from January 30 to February 2, 2025. After a very long car ride we end up in a kind of forest where we only see in front of us big works they are doing there. Nothing indicated where the park is or the reception. So we drove around for 45 minutes to find it but unfortunately nothing. Still decided to call the reception this was at 17h. So we were told that the reception was closed and that we had to call the emergency number. After calling this number 6 times they finally answered. They gave us the practical explanation and we could go inside to our cottage. Everything let out nicely. We put the heating on and the oven so we could eat something . Suddenly everything was off. We had no light , heating , TV , outlets that still worked . Everything was off. I called the emergency number and a technician came. They already knew about this problem and apparently this is everywhere in all houses. The technician could not help us and finally left. There we were with an 8 month old baby in the cold and no food. That night we drove to the MC do to get something to eat and unfortunately we had to book a night in a hotel nearby because it was so terribly cold in the house and totally unhealthy for our son. ( His little hands were all ice cold and was completely upset). The day after we returned the keys and asked for our money back. We got the money back and had to book something else last minute so we still had a nice 3 days.

I am very disappointed with my stay at Drentse Weelde. It started with an error in the price at BungalowSpecials which took me almost 2.5 weeks to correct. This required constant calling and emailing between BungalowSpecials and the park, which was far from smooth. During the stay, conditions were downright bad: - Work: There were large-scale works where our cottage was directly adjacent (relative to all other cottages, as the other cottages were behind our cottage). The noise started early in the morning and continued until late afternoon. We felt obliged to keep the curtains closed because of privacy, something that was not the case with other cottages. - Accessibility: The whole park was one big mud puddle, so you could hardly move outside. If you like to walk around the park, definitely do not go here! - Facilities: - We only had one shower towel (Mon-Fri). This is included in the price, but if you do go here, bring your own towels. We had to get towels at home. - The cooker hood did not work. - On two days we had moments without power, so we could not use the TV, coffee maker, kettle, oven and other equipment. When we left we could not even have breakfast as a result (oven did not work). I reported these problems during the stay at the reception, and now again contacted BungalowSpecials several times about my complaint. The park does not seem to want to take responsibility for the bad experience, which I find unacceptable. They state that they had told on the phone about the work, but that is not the case. Also on the BungalowSpecials website there was nothing about the possible works. BungalowSpecials was not informed by the park. Something I cannot do anything about as a booker. I absolutely do not recommend this park, especially if you are looking for peace and comfort.

First and foremost, we truly enjoyed your home. It was beautifully decorated, cozy, and provided a welcoming atmosphere, which we greatly appreciated. However, there were a couple of unexpected issues that we felt should have been mentioned in the listing: 1. Construction in Front of the House: There was ongoing construction directly in front of the property, which unfortunately disturbed the peaceful environment we had hoped for, particularly with the noise in the mornings. We understand that construction is out of your control, but we believe this should have been communicated to us beforehand as it impacted our experience. 2. Garbage Containers Placement: We noticed that the garbage containers were temporarily placed in front of the house due to the construction. We understand this was likely a temporary measure, it did affect the aesthetics of the property and at times caused some unpleasant odors. It would have been helpful to be aware of this situation before our stay. While we had a generally pleasant experience, we believe that clear communication about these factors would help future guests better prepare for their stay. Thank you for taking the time to read our feedback, and we hope this helps enhance the guest experience.
