Looking for a mountain hideaway with your crew? Schneiderhütte is a rustic alpine hut for up to 8 people, hidden in a small forest at 1,600 m in Sankt Lorenzen ob Murau, Styria. It sits right in the Frauenalpe hiking and ski touring area in the Murtal region – ideal if you love nature, snow and long evenings by the fire.

Inside you’ll find a cosy living room that’s made for slow mornings and late-night talks. There’s a pellet stove for easy heating, an open fireplace for that real mountain-hut vibe, and a classic tiled stove that keeps the whole place pleasantly warm. The small but practical kitchen has everything you need to cook together, and there’s a bathroom on the ground floor.

Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms, perfect for friends sharing. One bedroom has a comfortable sofa bed, the other a handy stackable bed – great for mixing and matching sleeping arrangements within your group.

Getting to Schneiderhütte already feels like an adventure. In summer you drive up from Murau over asphalt and gravel/meadow paths (you’ll get a key for the barrier on arrival), so you can reach the hut by car. In winter you park at the Murauer Hütte parking lot and walk about 10 minutes through the snow to reach your private base in the mountains. On arrival, you’ll get a personal, guided briefing so you know exactly how everything works.

In winter, the Frauenalpe is a natural snow paradise for ski tourers and snowshoe fans. Ski tours start right from the hut’s doorstep, so you can skip the crowds and enjoy fresh tracks in the quiet mountains. If you prefer classic skiing with lifts and groomed slopes, the Kreischberg ski area with 43 km of pistes and 12 lifts is just 0.6 km from Murau.

In summer, the panoramic 8 km Frauenalpe road offers beautiful viewpoints and trailheads for hikes. Fancy a cool-down after a day in the mountains? Head to the Krakaudorf Badesee leisure lake for swimming and relaxing in the sun. The nearby town of Murau has shops, restaurants and everything you need, while your hut stays wonderfully peaceful in the forest.
