Dive into history with the dolmens
The dolmens are prehistoric megalithic structures, and perhaps the most famous sights in Drenthe. They were built during the Neolithic period, about 5,000 years ago. There are 54 hunebeds in Drenthe, the closest of which is a 12-minute drive from the campground. These national monuments provide a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of the prehistoric peoples of the Netherlands, and they continue to capture the imagination of visitors from around the world.

Go on an adventure at Wildlands Adventure Zoo
Wildlands Adventure Zoo is a half-hour drive from the campground. The park is divided into three different areas: Jungola, Serenga and Nortica, each with its own theme and animals. Trek through the jungle to a temple where thousands of butterflies fly around or cruise across the water past swimming elephants. Or take a boat ride through a mangrove forest, on safari in a jeep or on a roller coaster, the "Tweestryd."
Pull into national park Drents-Fries Wolde
The National Park Drents-Friese Wold is a beautiful nature reserve on the outskirts of the campsite. Covering an area of over 6,000 hectares, the park is characterized by vast forests, heathlands, sand dunes and wetlands. It offers a network of well-marked trails for hikers and cyclists of all levels. There is rich biodiversity with more than 1,000 different plant species, including some rare species such as the sundew and cranberry. Enjoy various outdoor activities such as horseback riding, mountain biking and canoeing. The Drents-Friese Wold National Park is a beautiful and peaceful nature reserve that offers the opportunity to get in touch with nature and experience the beauty and diversity of the Dutch landscape.
Discover the Prison Museum
A 25-minute drive from the campground, in Veenhuizen, you will find the National Prison Museum. The museum is dedicated to the history of prisons and the penal system in the Netherlands. Through exhibits, you can learn about the lives of prisoners and the different ways they were punished throughout history. There are also interactive exhibits, such as a simulated police interrogation and a "jailbreak." It is also possible to tour the nearby prison complex, which is still in use. The Gevangenismuseum offers a fascinating and educational look at the history of crime and punishment in the Netherlands and is well worth a visit.

Our first impression was actually pretty good. The park is located in a rural setting, and the cottages looked neat at first glance. However, we did notice that the area behind the first row of cottages had a somewhat seedy vibe.
Upon arrival, there was a sewer smell in the cottage. After we bought our own toilet paper and an air freshener, it was good enough for me to sleep soundly. My husband, however, barely slept. The beds are quite firm, but of course that’s a matter of personal preference.
Unfortunately, the problems only got worse during our stay. The sewer smell grew stronger and stronger, the oven didn’t work, several kitchen appliances were broken, and the dishwasher wasn’t working properly either.
In addition, we didn’t feel at ease because of several strangers who, as far as we could tell, weren’t staying at the park. They repeatedly walked around the grounds and frequently peered inside the cottages. We also saw the police patrolling the park. That didn’t make us feel safe.
In the end, we felt so uncomfortable that we decided to leave a day early. So we left after just one night, even though we had originally planned to stay for two nights. It’s a real shame, because our first impression had given us hope for a pleasant stay.this is a translation, click here for the original
Onze eerste indruk was eigenlijk best goed.
Mijn man heeft echter nauwelijks geslapen.

Really a shame to stay here . We went here with our family ( 2 adults and baby of 8 month ) from January 30 to February 2, 2025. After a very long car ride we end up in a kind of forest where we only see in front of us big works they are doing there. Nothing indicated where the park is or the reception. So we drove around for 45 minutes to find it but unfortunately nothing. Still decided to call the reception this was at 17h. So we were told that the reception was closed and that we had to call the emergency number. After calling this number 6 times they finally answered. They gave us the practical explanation and we could go inside to our cottage. Everything let out nicely. We put the heating on and the oven so we could eat something . Suddenly everything was off. We had no light , heating , TV , outlets that still worked . Everything was off. I called the emergency number and a technician came. They already knew about this problem and apparently this is everywhere in all houses. The technician could not help us and finally left. There we were with an 8 month old baby in the cold and no food. That night we drove to the MC do to get something to eat and unfortunately we had to book a night in a hotel nearby because it was so terribly cold in the house and totally unhealthy for our son. ( His little hands were all ice cold and was completely upset). The day after we returned the keys and asked for our money back. We got the money back and had to book something else last minute so we still had a nice 3 days.
