Hillfarrow Hideaway is a cosy one-bedroom barn conversion on the peaceful outskirts of Burlescombe, near Uffculme in Mid Devon. It’s made for two – perfect if you’re sneaking away for a romantic break, with your dog or just the two of you.

You’re tucked away in the countryside, yet still close to the main routes towards Cornwall, North Devon and Bristol. That makes this hideaway ideal both as a relaxing base for a few days in Devon and as a comfortable stopover on a longer road trip.

Inside, you’ll find a warm, welcoming space with lots of thoughtful details. The open-plan living area has a well-equipped kitchenette, so you can easily cook simple breakfasts or a special dinner for two. Enjoy your meal at the rustic oak breakfast bar, or slide open the door and wander out to the enclosed rear patio for an alfresco drink.

After a day exploring the Devon countryside, curl up together on the comfy sofa in front of the electric fire and put on your favourite film. A beautifully handcrafted sliding door separates the snug bedroom from the living space, giving you both privacy and a cosy, cocooned feel.

The real showstopper is the suspended king-size bed with its stargazing window above. As night falls, switch off the lights and watch the stars in the inky-black sky of the International Dark Skies Reserve – it’s a magical way to end the day.

When you’re ready to head out, there’s plenty to explore. Discover the heritage of Mid Devon with local museums, castles and historic houses just a short drive away. Within around 30 minutes you can reach beaches on either the north or south coast, including the famous Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Closer to home, the Blackdown Hills AONB and Culmstock Beacon offer peaceful walks, big views and an abundance of wildlife.
