General information
Looking for a romantic escape in the Welsh countryside? ‘Joan’ Shepherds Hut is your cosy hideaway on the beautiful Llŷn Peninsula, just a short drive from Portmeirion and the dramatic peaks of Snowdonia. Tucked away in wildflower meadows and overlooking a peaceful private lake, this charming hut is made for couples who want to slow down, switch off, and wake up to big skies and birdsong.
Inside, everything is cleverly designed to make your stay as comfortable as possible. There’s a snug double bed where you can curl up after a day of exploring, a fully equipped kitchen for easy breakfasts and relaxed dinners, and an ensuite shower room so you don’t have to share facilities. A wood-burning stove keeps the hut warm and atmospheric, perfect for cosy evenings in with a glass of wine and a good book.
Step outside and you’re right in the middle of nature. Enjoy your morning coffee on the outdoor seating area while you look out over the lake and the rolling countryside. In the evening, light the fire pit, watch the sky turn pink over Yr Eifl (The Rivals), and stay out late under a sky full of stars. It’s the kind of place where you can really take a breath and enjoy the quiet.
The hut is part of a small collection of five bespoke shepherds huts, each carefully designed with an eco-conscious touch. You’ll find organic toiletries and thoughtful, sustainable details that make your stay feel that little bit more special.
You’re staying in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so there’s no shortage of things to do. Head to the coast for clifftop walks, sandy beaches, and fresh sea air, or visit Portmeirion with its Italian-style architecture, colourful streets, and beautiful gardens. If you’re feeling adventurous, Snowdonia’s mountains and hiking trails are within easy reach.
With convenient parking right behind the hut and a minimum stay of three nights, ‘Joan’ gives you the time and space to really unwind. It’s a peaceful, romantic base for two – ideal if you want to explore North Wales by day and come home to comfort, calm, and unforgettable views by night.
