Ruins and birds of prey (34-minute drive)
The castle ruins of Landskron are located at 660 meters. In addition to its fascinating history dating back to 1351, you will find a gourmet restaurant and an entertaining children's program with a puzzle rally. At the castle ruins you can enjoy an impressive bird of prey show, with giant eagles. Moreover, next to the castle is the Affenberg, Austria's largest open-air monkey enclosure with as many as 160 monkeys! We’ve been coming here to this campground with our RV for many years now; back then, the campground was under different management. First as a couple, then for many years with our two children, and now as a couple again—sometimes with one of our children, who’s all grown up now. It’s always a pleasure to come here. The surroundings here in … Hermagor are absolutely lovely—it’s simply our second home. The campground has a lovely swimming pool, both indoor and outdoor, as well as a natural swimming pond. The washrooms are nicely furnished, and if they’re not quite as clean as they could be, it’s certainly not the cleaning staff’s fault—contrary to what’s sometimes criticized in reviews here, claiming that the place isn’t cleaned thoroughly enough. Sometimes I wonder if, at home, some “vacationers” also leave toilet paper on the floor or leave the shower flooded.
In any case, we always love coming back here.
We’ve even spent two vacations this year in the “Fass”—each lasting 2–3 days—right here on the campground. It’s a nice change of pace and highly recommended!this is a translation, click here for the original
Wir kommen schon viele Jahre hierher auf den Campingplatz mit unserem Wohnwagen, damals war der Platz noch unter anderer Leitung. Erst als Paar, dann viele Jahre mit den beiden Kindern und jetzt wieder als Paar, manchmal noch mit einem inzwischen schon großen Kind. Es ist immer wieder schön her zukommen. Eine sehr schöne Umgebung hier in Hermagor, einfach unser zweites zu Hause. Der Platz hat ein schönes Schwimmbad, innen sowie außen und zusätzlich noch einen Naturschwimmteich. Die Waschhäuser sind schön eingerichtet und wenn es mal nicht so sauber ist, dann liegt das bestimmt nicht am Putzpersonal, so wie es hier manchmal in den Rezensionen bemängelt wird, dass nicht ausreichend geputzt wird. Manchmal frage ich mich ob bei einigen "Urlaubern" zu Hause auch das Toilettenpapier auf dem Boden liegt oder die Dusche unter Wasser steht.
Wir kommen auf jeden Fall immer wieder sehr gerne hierher.
Haben dieses Jahr sogar schon 2x Urlaub im "Fass", immer 2-3 Tage, hier auf dem Platz gemacht, mal was anderes und auch sehr zu empfehlen! -

We stayed in an apartment in one of the Villa's onsite. It was spacious & very clean & tidy. The staff at reception were extremely helpful & nothing was too much trouble especially as we didn't speak German. Thank you for a lovely stay for our first trip to Austria.

We stayed there for just under 13 days with our relatively large RV.
The location is great, right in the middle of the mountains.
It’s a quick trip to Hermagor or Villach.
The pool is heated. It might get a bit cramped, though, when the campground is full. We didn’t have that problem this time, though.
The natural pond, … which is actually beautiful, looks a bit neglected.
We had a “comfort” site, but it was already quite tight with the trailer, car, and awning. Some sites were larger, but you couldn’t tell that when booking.
The staff at the front desk were always friendly.
The kids’ area is a bit sparse, but at least there is one.
All in all, we had a relaxing time, and the kids had fun in the pool.

Wir waren knapp 13 Tage vor Ort mit unserem rel. grossen Wohnwagen.
Die Lage ist toll, mitten in Bergen.
Man ist schnell in Hermagor oder Villach.
Der Pool ist beheizt. Könnte aber bei einem vollen Platz eng werden. Das Problem hatten wir jetzt aber nicht.
Der Naturteich, eigentlich schön, wirkt aber etwas vernachlässigt.
Wir hatten einen Komfortplatz, welcher aber schon recht eng mit Wohnwagen, Auto und Vorzelt. Manche waren grösser, aber das konnte man bei der Buchung nicht erkennen.
Das Personal am Empfang war stets freundlich.
Der Kinderbereich ist etwas mager, aber zumindest gibt es einen.
Alles in allem hatten wir eine entspannte Zeit, die Kinder hatten spass im Pool.
Ein bisschen mehr Strenge wäre wünschenswert, um die Nachtruhe Zeiten einzuhalten. -

Amazing location, stayed in an alpine apartment which was seconds walk away from the pools.
Very well equipped rooms, only negative is lack of air conditioning.
