Huttopia Vallée de la Semois

The view is absolutely beautiful; there are different areas for campers, either separated by hedges or lined up along the river. The site costs a few euros more (it was €2 per day for us), but it’s definitely worth it. We saw wild otters and deer. The water is so clear that you can even see the fish.

There’s a great, large playground for kids.

We were greeted very warmly at the front desk.

The restrooms are very clean.

We spent two weeks here during peak summer and overall had a very positive stay. The campsite is beautiful, well maintained and in a lovely location beside the river. The sanitary facilities were exceptionally clean throughout our stay, the playground was great for children, and the staff were consistently friendly and helpful.

There are, … however, a few areas that could be improved. Some pitches are very small and close together, with absolutely no shade or privacy. More trees and hedges would make a big difference, especially during hot weather.

The laundry room is too small for the size of the campsite, with only two washing machines, and it could have been cleaner. The swimming pools were also very cold and appeared somewhat murky, while the decking around the pool was extremely slippery. We saw both adults and children slipping regularly, so this feels like an important safety issue.

We also noticed one staff member regularly driving a golf cart much faster than the 10 km/h speed limit, which felt unsafe around children and created a lot of dust.

Despite these points, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily return. With some improvements to the pitches, laundry facilities and pool area, this could easily become a five-star campsite. Read more Show less

We have rented a pitch for our tent.

Positive:
Great nature around: river, mountains.
You can ask administration to move to another pitch, if it’s the same type and empty, but have the better view.
You can borrow electric cable at the reception as plug-in might be far away.

Negative:
One of the sanitary point has lots of … the birds (as the result is shit) and spiders. Good point there is another one of closed type much cleaner. Read more Show less

We’ve been at the campground for 5 days now and will be staying for two more days.
We’ve noticed some positive aspects, but unfortunately, there are many negative ones as well.
We’re Huttopia customers—we’ve stayed at other Huttopia campgrounds—and we’re disappointed with this one.

Positive: The location on the banks of the Semois is … incredible. We’re staying in a small, very charming, clean, and cozy trailer.
The staff is very friendly.
The showers have hot water.
The kids’ play area in front of the bar is great.

Negatives:
- The pool is dirty and green, and the wooden edges are slippery because of the mud. And most importantly: it’s not heated, contrary to what’s advertised (at least when we tried it twice in the evening)
- Only the RV sites have a view of the Semois River. For us, at the far end of the campground in our trailer, we’re a bit crammed together.
- Absolutely no cell service at the far end of the campground. We had to go to the common area to get a signal.
- No supervision or security to address disruptive behavior. The campground is accessible to anyone—there are no gates or security measures. Some guests get away with anything, like spreading other people’s laundry on the ground right after a wash cycle has just finished.
Most of the board games and equipment available for self-service use are practically useless because they’re in such poor condition. Pieces are missing from nearly every game, the ping-pong balls are squashed, and the few books available are outdated and tattered.
There’s a charge for the foosball table.
- The trailer is perfect, but I have one concern regarding safety with children. The children’s beds all have windows without safety features (impossible to lock) and are located near electrical outlets.
- There are no (or almost no) activities at the campground, whether for adults or children. For a campground that bills itself as family-friendly, there’s nothing accessible to a 3-year-old except the playground. We had just one concert over the course of a week as our only activity—nothing else. On the posted schedule, the “activities” included, for example, going on our own to the market in the neighboring town.
