Campsite Clair Matin is located at an altitude of 520 metres in Allevard-les-Bains, at the foot of the impressive Belledonne massif. The green and flower-filled 5.5-hectare park is just 600 metres from the village centre and the thermal baths. Take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool with paddling pool, while children have fun in the playground, on the multi-sports court or at the table tennis table. During the high season, there are activities for children and teenagers, including pétanque tournaments, games and convivial evenings. The snack bar offers fresh bread rolls, breakfast, meals and takeaway dishes. No fewer than 300 kilometres of hiking trails and 200 kilometres of mountain bike routes await around the campsite. You can also go fishing, horse riding, climbing and paragliding in the area, or discover one of the many mountain lakes.

Mountain biking through the Belledonne

Around Allevard-les-Bains lies an extensive network of signposted mountain bike routes that allow you to explore the area in an active way. In total, you can choose from dozens of kilometres of trails for different levels. Gentler routes follow the lower parts of the valley and pass the Bréda River, among other places, while more challenging routes climb further into the mountains. Along the way, you cycle through forests of spruce and larch, across open mountain slopes and past viewpoints overlooking the peaks of the Belledonne massif. Choose a short one-hour loop or make it a longer trip in which you gain plenty of elevation. If you have not brought your own mountain bike, you can rent one nearby. This way, you can decide for yourself how active you want to make your day in the Alps.

Hike to the mountain lakes of Les 7 Laux

Put on your hiking boots for a trip to Les 7 Laux, a collection of mountain lakes high in the Belledonne massif. Several hiking trails lead up from the valley through forests and across increasingly open mountain slopes. Once above the tree line, the landscape changes and the clear lakes appear among the rugged mountain peaks. Some lie at an altitude of more than 2,000 metres, rewarding you with impressive views over the French Alps along the way. Bring plenty of food and drink and make a full day of it in the mountains, as there are few facilities along the route. On warm days, it is tempting to dip your feet into the cold mountain water. Due to the differences in elevation, the hike requires a reasonable level of fitness, but it is precisely the combination of mountain scenery, tranquillity and several lakes that makes the trip special.

Relax at the Thermes d'Allevard

About 500 metres from the campsite are the Thermes d'Allevard, where sulphurous spring water has been used for thermal treatments for centuries. You do not need to book a full treatment programme to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere here. Choose, for example, a massage or a short wellness programme and unwind completely after an active day in the mountains. The thermal baths are located in the centre of Allevard-les-Bains and are therefore easy to reach on foot from the campsite.

Climb among the treetops

For an active afternoon, head to the adventure park a few kilometres from the campsite. Various courses take you further and further among the treetops via suspension bridges, cables and platforms. Thanks to routes for different ages and levels, both beginner and experienced climbers can find a challenge here. One of the most enjoyable features is the zip lines, which let you whizz through the trees at height. An adventurous outing that is easy to combine with a visit to Allevard-les-Bains.

    A very nice campground with large sites that are spaced out so you have plenty of privacy.
    The staff is super friendly and helpful. Our bike rack was broken, and they did everything they could to fix it—they even went out and bought a new part specifically for this purpose.
    The pool was very pleasant—not very big, but definitely big enough for swimming.
    The bathroom fixtures are “vintage,” very sturdy and spotless.

    Een zeer mooie camping met grote plaatsen die verspreid liggen zodat je voldoende privacy hebt.
    Het personeel is supervriendelijk en behulpzaam. Onze fietsendrager was kapot en ze hebben er al het mogelijke aan gedaan om het te repareren, zelfs een nieuw apparaatje gaan kopen speciaal hiervoor bestemd.
    Het zwembad was heel aangenaam, niet heel groot maar zeker voldoende om te zwemmen.
    Het sanitair is ´vintage´ , heel degelijk z'n kraaknet.
