Camping de Besançon is located on the banks of the Doubs, just a stone's throw from the city center of Besançon. If you arrive at the park via the EuroVélo6 route, you can safely store your bike in the covered bike shed and immediately feel at home. Next to the campsite, there's a swimming complex covering more than 3 hectares, where you can swim laps in a 50-meter Olympic pool, slide down the pentagliss, or let the little ones splash around in the splashpad with water jets. Access is free for guests of the campsite. In between, you can grab a snack on the terrace overlooking the pool or buy local products at the small grocery store in the park. In the evening, you can play a game on the pétanque court, while Besançon, the historic capital of Franche-Comté, is within cycling distance for those who want to explore the city.

Step inside the Citadelle of Besançon or walk through the Vallée de la Loue
The Citadelle of Besançon, built by Vauban and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands on a rocky outcrop above the city. Inside, you will find three museums: the Museum of Resistance and Deportation, the Museum of Natural History, and the Comtois Museum. Be sure to walk along the ramparts for a wide view over the city and the surrounding hills. For those who want a bit more action: there are guided tours with an actor who brings the fortress's history to life.
In Ornans, the Vallée de la Loue begins, where the Loue River flows wildly through rock walls from a spring in the middle of the rocks. The birthplace of painter Gustave Courbet is in the village and is now a museum. Afterwards, you can walk into the valley along trails beside the water.
Cycling EuroVélo 6 and tasting Jura wines
Cycle the EuroVélo 6 along the Doubs: EuroVélo 6 runs straight through Besançon and follows the Doubs valley, with views of the forts overlooking the river. The route connects Basel to Nevers and is wide enough to be easily accessible for beginner cyclists. The campsite is certified Accueil Vélo and is a recognized stopover point on the route.
Taste the Jura wines at Vignoble Guillaume. In the Jura, one of France's most distinctive wine cultures thrives: here you’ll find the oxidatively aged vin jaune, made nowhere else quite like this. At Vignoble Guillaume, you can visit the vineyard and taste the wines on site. The area around Arbois is known for its small producers, which are easy to visit along the Jura Wine Route.
Sail past Besançon on the Doubs
Take the boat Le Vauban for a cruise on the Doubs river, right through the heart of Besançon. The trip takes you through locks and tunnels past fortifications such as Fort Griffon and the Tour de la Pelote. Guided tours are available in several languages. In the summer, you can also rent electric boats for your own trip at your own pace along the banks of the Doubs, where the medieval ramparts are still clearly visible.
Go underground at the Grotte d'Osselle
Beneath the Doubs valley lie two caves, each showcasing a different side of the underground Jura. In the Grotte d'Osselle, which is over 1200 meters long, you walk through dry corridors and alongside an underground river, while fossils prove that these spaces have been inhabited for thousands of years. The Gouffre de Poudrey goes even deeper: 80 meters below ground, with a guided tour featuring sound and light effects on the theme of earth and water. Anyone who thought it was already beautiful above ground will be amazed here.
