Beach and water along the coast

From the campsite you are on the beach in no time. Ideal for swimming, looking for shells, or just walking along the coast. The sea changes with the tide, which means the beach looks different each time. On the water you can see sailboats and SUP boards passing by. Kayaking and other water sports are also possible nearby. The beach is wide and clear, with plenty of space to find a spot.

Cycling on Île de Ré

Île de Ré is made to be explored by bike. Across the whole island there is a network of cycle paths that takes you past villages, beaches and salt marshes. Along the way you pass small markets, terraces and harbors. The routes are flat and easy to follow, so you can easily set out for a day without any fixed plan. Bike rental is available near the campsite.

Around the campsite, there are villages where daily life largely takes place outdoors. In Rivedoux-Plage you walk along the harbor, watch oyster farmers at work and buy fresh produce from small shops or markets. The white houses with colored shutters and hollyhocks define the streetscape. Further on the island there are more villages like this, each with its own atmosphere. You wander through narrow streets, stop for a coffee or join in for local dishes. Oysters and other shellfish and crustaceans play a major role here. It is not a place where you tick everything off, but where you wander around and naturally linger somewhere.

Active outdoors: sport and nature

Besides beaches and villages, there is plenty to do for those who want to stay active. In the area, you can go SUPing, kayaking, or sailing along the coast. Horse riding is also among the possibilities, as well as fishing or walking along the coastlines and through nature reserves on the island. The combination of water and land makes it easy to alternate. Out on the water in the morning, later in the day cycling or going for a walk. Due to the flat landscape and short distances, everything stays easy to navigate. You do not need to plan much to still have a varied day, and many activities are within short distance of the campsite.

    Camping la Redoute in Rivedoux is in a great location—the beach and shops are within walking distance. The only downsides are that it’s a bit noisy due to its proximity to the road, and the restrooms are cramped. The mobile homes are all brand-new this year and well-equipped (AC, TV, dishwasher, griddle, sheets, towels, etc.), but there’s no ramp … for the steps, which are tough for older people. The front desk staff are always professional, helpful, and friendly—some have been there for many years—and the maintenance staff are responsive and efficient. In short, after many seasons here, we keep coming back and will return whenever possible.

    Camping la Redoute à Rivedoux, très bien situé, plage et courses à pied, seul bémol la proximité de la route un peu bruyante, et l'exiguïté des toilettes. Les mobiles-homes sont tous neufs cette année et bien équipés (clim, télé, lave-vaisselle, plancha, draps, serviettes ..), manque rampe aux marches, rudes pour les vieux. Personnel d'accueil toujours pro, serviable et souriant, là depuis de nombreuses années pour certaines , , personnel technique réactif et efficace.en résumé, après de nombreuses saisons, nous revenons et reviendrons si possible.

    Good location, fairly large sites, but some are heavily shaded. The restrooms could be cleaner and are outdated. The staff at the front desk are very businesslike. Close to the beach and the bike path.

    A minimalist and very perfunctory welcome: we really got the impression that we were bothering the person who checked us in. Sure, we arrived after the season had ended, but the least they could have done was explain the campground’s various facilities and services to us; instead, it was just “here’s your map—now leave me alone…”
    A very new and … pleasant mobile home with a terrace (note: there’s no lighting on the terrace near the patio furniture and grill). The large bed leaves little room on either side, and the placement of the outlets in the bedroom (high up in the middle of the bed) is surprising.
    The campground is very pleasant and very well located, BUT the two VERY busy roads on either side must certainly be quite bothersome in the middle of summer (in September it’s bearable).
    PLEASE NOTE: The pool closes at 6:15 p.m. in September, which is fairly early.
    We were surprised not to find a hair dryer in the mobile home.
    The parking spots near the mobile homes were rarely used during our stay: there wasn’t enough room to pull in because the aisles were too narrow—or sandy (high risk of getting stuck). We would have appreciated a terrace that was 10 cm smaller and easier access through the driveways rather than the opposite...
    Note: there’s a very good restaurant right next door that’s open only for lunch (be sure to make a reservation).

    Accueil minimaliste et très expéditif: on a vraiment l'impression qu'on ennuyait la personne qui nous a accueillis. Certes on arrive après la saison mais le minimum aurait été de nous détailler les différents équipements et services du camping, là c'était prend ton plan et laisse moi....
    Mobilhome très récent et très agréable avec sa terrasse (attention, pas de lumière sur la terrasse coté salon de jardin/plancha). Le grand lit laisse peu de place sur les cotés et l'emplacement des prises dans la chambre (au milieu du lit en hauteur) est surprenant.
    Le camping est très agréable et très bien situé MAIS les deux routes TRÈS passantes de chaque coté doivent certainement être très gênantes en plein été (en septembre c'est supportable).
    ATTENTION: la piscine ferme à 18h15 en septembre ce qui est assez tôt.
    Nous avons été surpris de ne pas trouver de sèche cheveux dans le mobilhome.
    Les emplacements de parking proches des mobilhomes ont été peu utilisés lors de notre séjour: pas assez de place pour s'y engager car allées trop serrées - ou sablonneux (risque d'enlisement très important). On aurait apprécié 10 cm de moins de terrasse et une circulation dans les allées facilitée plutôt que l'inverse...
    A noter: un très bon restaurant juste à coté ne servant que les midis (pensez à réserver)
