Huttopia Oléron Les Chênes Verts

A beautiful campground with shaded spots. Lots of families with young children. Young staff who do their best to make sure everyone has a good time. Close to the sea. A relaxed atmosphere at the campground. Unfortunately, there are also some downsides. The campsites are close together, which causes some noise disturbance—especially since there are many groups staying there. People sit outside talking—or sometimes even shouting—well into the night, and by morning the young children are already up and about. A tip for the campground that I wanted to give them when we checked out (but the guy at the front desk didn’t ask how our stay had been): make sure there are designated quiet hours at the campground. We think it’s a lot quieter if you’re parked further back in the campground. The restrooms are perfectly adequate, but the hot water runs out regularly. But when it’s warm, that’s not a big deal. Outings: a day trip to La Rochelle to visit the aquarium and go shopping, dining out in Cotinière at La Sardinière, and getting ice cream at Les Tamaris. The best waves are at Verbois.

The campground is in a very idyllic setting. But that’s about it.
Other than that: no Wi-Fi or cell service anywhere on the campground. Sometimes it works at the front desk, but after an hour you get kicked off. No one here seems to care that some people have to work even while on vacation.
Nor do they seem to care that it would be nice to have toilet paper in stock or for the showers and restrooms to be clean. There are lines in front of the restrooms in the evenings.
Almost exclusively families with small children, with the corresponding background noise. Since the campground is apparently a favorite spot for city dwellers who think they’re endlessly cool and important, there’s a lot of lecturing to the kids (“What do you think about being a little quieter right now?”) and not much else happens.
Overall, pretty annoying and relatively little to show for the price. There are definitely nicer spots on the island.

We stayed at this Huttopia; the welcome and the staff were warm, and it’s close to the ocean. The highlights for us were the setting, the tranquility, and the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. On the downside, the campsites weren’t always easy to set up on, there was no 4G or 5G service at the sites, and the restrooms weren’t super clean—but we understand it gets crowded during peak season.
We recommend this campground.

Hello, the first campsite was in full sun. It’s a far cry from what the campground’s name suggests. The showers were cold. The campsite was ridiculously small. The campground was extremely noisy. I think this is the last time I’ll go on vacation with Huttopia.
