Visit the Musée des Dinosaures in Espéraza
Step into the world of dinosaurs at Musée des Dinosaures, also known as Dinosauria, in Espéraza. This museum is entirely devoted to dinosaurs, fossils and the history of life on Earth. In about 3,000 m² of exhibition space, you can discover skeletons, life-size reconstructions and fossils of reptiles, mammals, invertebrates and plants from the region and beyond. Particularly notable is the link with the Haute Vallée de l’Aude, where important dinosaur remains have been found. In addition, the park has an active excavation site within walking distance. For those who want more, the museum organizes workshop days in the summer, where you can join in digging at the surrounding site yourself. In this way, you will make an educational journey through different geological periods, from the first life forms to the age of the dinosaurs.

Discover the impressive Cirque de Navacelle
Discover one of Occitanie’s most impressive natural spots at Cirque de Navacelles, a deep gorge on the border of Hérault and Gard. The Vis River has shaped a remarkable landscape here between the causses of Larzac and Blandas, with steep rock faces, panoramic viewpoints and the small village of Navacelles far below. From the belvederes, you look out over a cirque about 300 meters deep, while walking trails bring you closer to the gorges and the river. The area is part of the UNESCO landscape Causses & Cévennes and carries the Grand Site de France label. Take your time, put on sturdy shoes and experience this rugged part of southern France up close during a relaxing day in nature.
Walk through Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert
The medieval village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert lies in the gorge of the Verdus, close to where it meets the Hérault. You walk past the Abbey of Gellone, a Romanesque monastery on the Way of St. James that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The narrow streets wind upward past stone facades and small terraces where you can order a glass of local wine with a view of the monastery garden. In summer, stalls selling regional products stand on the central square under the plane trees.
Canoeing on the Hérault
Go on an adventure on the Hérault River, which flows past the park and is one of the most popular canoe rivers in Languedoc. Between Gignac and Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, you paddle through a gorge with high limestone walls on both sides. In summer, the water is calm enough for beginners, but the narrow passage at the Pont du Diable requires some steering skill. After the trip, jump into the water at one of the swimming spots along the way.
