A gorgeous natural campground with sites right in the middle of the forest. It’s the perfect spot for anyone looking for peace and quiet. Very friendly owner, clean restrooms, and a pool on site. It’s not the cheapest option, but it’s very nice. You can pre-order pastries.

Camping l'Avenalède is located in the western part of Parc naturel régional du Verdon, in the "Basses Gorges de Verdon. It is located southwest of the largest reservoir in the Verdon, Lac de Sainte-Croix. We stayed there with our trailer tent from May 30 to June 6, 2025. The approach route is beautiful, but also winding. No problem for our folding trailer, but challenging for large RVs and caravans. We noticed the variety first: The campground has a section where you can camp off-grid, or with electricity. You are literally in a forest; the sites there are large and well maintained. There are also more cultivated, square sites, bordered by various types of permanent accommodations (mobile homes, glamping tents, etc.). You also have spots along the edge, with wide views. So there is something for everyone. The first night we were on spot #13, near the main road. A nice spot, but did not like it because of the ambient noise of the road, but also because that corner of the campground was a bit noisy, due to crowds from Ascension Day. The next day we explored the very large campground, looking for a more suitable spot than #13. And we found it, in the woods, on the northwest side; spot #66. Completely surrounded by greenery, shady, overlooking a green little valley and forest. You heard mostly the sound of birds. Sometimes you could also hear sounds of low-flying helicopters, even at night. When we were there, one sanitary building was open (3 minute walk), the other building was closed. Fine facilities there; hot water, spacious showers with a good water jet and temperature control knob. Toilets without seat and toilet paper (though there is a large 'emergency toilet paper roll' hanging on the wall outside). Everything perfectly clean and tidy. The pool is heated, and quite deep. There is also a shallow paddling pool, also heated. Fine sun beds. We often had the pool to ourselves, what a pleasure! The campground owner is very friendly and helpful, and there is a friendly atmosphere. There is a bread service, we especially liked the "pain". There is also a restaurant, we have not been here. The surroundings are very beautiful, we visited Quinson and l'Ancien Canal du Verdon. Both on foot (nice hike) and also on water, with an electric boat. Furthermore, the Lac de Sainte-Croix is particularly beautiful, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is beautiful and the Gorges du Verdon (towards Castellane) are also worth a visit. From the campsite you are within 1½ hours in Marseille, very nice to do. Tip -> buy for € 11 a ferry ticket in the port of Marseille and sail to one of the islands off the coast. We visited Frioul, which was really cool! In summary, we really enjoyed our stay at Camping l'Avenalède, spot #66 was top, also the campsite is a great base to explore the Verdon. We will definitely come back!

Small campsite on a human scale with views over the countryside and mountains. Good advice on visits given at reception by the manager. Unusual accommodation in a quiet location. The bakery orders managed by the reception are of high quality, which is not always the case in tourist accommodation. Working in tourism, I spent a pleasant vacation here (far from mass tourism).
