After a few years of seasonal camping, we’re no longer satisfied

Our campsite:
For two years, we had a spacious spot on a large meadow. Before the end of the current season, our spot was supposed to be upgraded to a “comfort” site (16A electricity and a private water hookup). Instead, the entire meadow was redesigned; the sites were made … smaller, relocated, and turned into an unacceptable muddy mess by excavator work. Reluctantly, we were assigned another site, away from the action. There was no communication.

Restroom facilities:
These were mostly clean.
The washhouse near us was new, but some doors couldn’t be locked or were difficult to lock (some children locked themselves in and couldn’t get out). The ventilation in the showers doesn’t work, and the water temperature can’t be adjusted.
This was better in the older washhouses.

Restaurant:
In our opinion, completely overpriced

Snack bar and kiosk:
The snack bar is often closed.
No cash accepted, so kids have no chance to get an ice cream.

Entertainment:
Unfortunately, mostly in Dutch and less frequent than in previous years.

Playgrounds:
Scarce, as some have been removed.
Climbing course only allowed with campground staff present—so never.

Small and large lakes:
The kids were grossed out by the small lake, and the large lake has looked better in the past.

Paths:
Large potholes were filled with loose gravel, making it unsafe to ride a bike on them.

Compliance with rules:
The 10 km/h speed limit isn’t observed by campground vehicles.
The leash requirement is often ignored and not enforced (the campground’s own dog runs free as an example).
Dog waste is often not cleaned up—especially when the dogs are running free?

Price trends:
Outrageous

Positive:
With a few exceptions, friendly staff and service technicians.
Spacious and scenic grounds with plenty of potential.

Conclusion:
A large campground whose vacation quality is declining year after year, yet it keeps getting more expensive.
The available space isn’t being used to improve quality (e.g., playgrounds) but only to boost revenue by adding more cramped campsites.

Since the value for money is getting worse and worse, we probably won’t be coming back. Read more Show less

We visited Campingpark Wilsumer Berge for the first time during this fall break and would like to share the following observations.
- The campground is beautifully laid out and offers plenty of play areas for children.
- The showers and restrooms were mostly clean, but relatively cold, as it didn’t feel like they were heated.
- Our … children loved the indoor playground, and the large sandy beach was also perfect for playing
- Our booking price was surprisingly affordable, which helped us overlook a few shortcomings
- While we were there, construction was taking place all over the place, which at times led to really significant noise
- The ground is so sandy in places that ground anchors and tent pegs couldn’t be secured
- The road on the campground is so riddled with bumps and potholes in places that you really had to watch where you were driving
- The entertainment team was a solid 6, sorry, but all the other campgrounds did a better job with that, and it was almost exclusively in Dutch
- There was also no snack bar on the campground that offered a quick bite between meals
- The supermarket was very small—very limited selection, but the prices were okay
- Activities for kids, such as feeding alpacas, were limited to a maximum of 10 children per day and required advance registration

All in all, we can say that if the price is right, we’d be happy to come back. We’ve noticed that a lot of renovation and construction is currently underway, which suggests that the resort will hopefully continue to grow in potential. Read more Show less

We stayed there for 4 nights and didn’t want to leave. It was just wonderful. Kids’ activities and playgrounds around every corner. Even when it’s cold outside, you can use the indoor playground. There were plenty of restrooms available everywhere, and they were cleaned several times a day—they were only a little dirty on the floor because of the … weather. All in all, we’re completely satisfied and would love to come back. Our daughter had a great time and fell into bed exhausted every night. Thank you for this wonderful time. Read more Show less
