On different days markets are organized where you can buy local products such as fresh fruit and vegetables, but also to score the nicest souvenirs you are at the right place at a market. For example, there are lively markets in Borken, Bocholt, Winterswijk and Essen. Plenty of choice!
An outing with the kids
Take the kids to Ketteler Hof - Haltern am See, where you can climb, slide, jump, swing and more! This fun play park is a 35-minute drive away. Another fun place to go is Ponyhof Leiting, 20 minutes away. Let the kids take a ride on one of the ponies or head toward the large playground, while parents find a spot on the terrace. Looking for an activity when the weather is bad? Indoor Aquaris pool is a 10-minute drive away. Slide down the dark slide, jump off the diving board and swim in the indoor or outdoor pool. Make a hike or bike ride extra fun by following one of the routes created in cooperation with Nature Park Hohe Mark Westmünsterland and the Westphalian Heimatbund. For example, the Planetary Route starts right from Camping Borken am See. While following the "planet trail" you will answer questions such as "How big is the sun?" or "How many planets are there?". We stayed at this campground as a family with our dog in early September. The campground is in a very beautiful location, and the sites are spacious enough. The restaurant is good. The campground is clearly designed with families with children in mind, which is reflected in the noise level, especially in the restaurant. The restroom facility on … the grounds was very basic and had no heating. Upon departure, we discovered that there was no gray water disposal station for RVs. The pricing simply doesn’t match what’s offered. This was by far the most expensive campground we’ve ever stayed at. For the weekend from Friday to Sunday (we had to leave by 10:00 a.m.), we paid €225, broken down as follows:
XL site: €146
Final cleaning: €40 (for a small, simple restroom?)
Dog: €10
Reservation fee: €29 (for what????)

Wir waren Anfang September als Familie mit Hund auf diesem Campingplatz. Der Campingplatz ist sehr schöne gelegen, die Parzellen sind ausreichend groß. Das Restaurant ist gut. Der Campingplatz ist offensichtlich sehr für Familien mit Kindern ausgelegt, was sich auch in der Lautstärke besonders im Restaurant widerspiegelt. Die Sanitärzelle auf dem Platz war sehr einfach gehalten und ohne Möglichkeit zu heizen. Bei der Abreise stellte sich heraus, dass es für Wohnmobile keine Grauwasser Entsorgungsstation gibt. Für das Gebotene passt die Preisgestaltung einfach nicht. Das war der bei weitem der teuerste Campingplatz in unserer Camping-Laufbahn. Für das Wochenende Freitag bis Sonntag (10:00 Uhr musste man den Platz verlassen) haben wir 225,-€ bezahlt die sich wie folgt zusammensetzen:
Stellplatz XL: 146,-€
Endreinigung: 40,-€ (für eine kleine, einfache Sanitärzelle?)
Hund: 10,-€
Reservierungsgebühr: 29€ (wofür????)
Die Preisgestaltung passt leider überhaupt nicht zur gebotenen Leistung und somit werden wir diesen Platz sicherlich nicht noch einmal nutzen. -

A beautiful place with friendly people and plenty for the kids to do; the campsite with its own restroom facility is really good—it’s small, but it serves its purpose. The kids are always kept busy, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it.

Schöner Platz mit netten Leuten und viel für die kids,stellplatz mit eigenem Sanitärhaus ist schon sehr gut,klein, aber es erfüllt seinen Zweck. Die Kinder sind immer gut beschäftigt und das Personal ist sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Kann ich nur empfehlen.

This was our second time there, and we were once again completely satisfied. The glamping tents are simply gorgeous. The entire property is fantastically well-maintained and exceptionally child-friendly. Since cars aren’t allowed on the grounds, the owner personally transports the luggage to the tents in a mini electric truck. The first highlight … for the kids is that they get to ride along on the truck bed. Just like the owner, the staff goes out of their way to take care of every guest. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Wir waren zum zweiten Mal da und wieder rundum zufrieden. Die Glamping-Zelte sind einfach traumhaft schön. Die ganze Anlage ist fantastisch gepflegt und außerordentlich kinderfreundlich. Da die Autos draußen bleiben, wird das Gepäck mit einem Mini-Elekro-Lastwagen von der Chefin persönlich zum Zelt befördert. Das erste Highlight für die Kids ist, dass sie auf der Ladefläche mitfahren dürfen. Die Mitarbeiter sind, genauso wie die Chefin, um jeden Gast bemüht. Wir freuen uns jetzt schon auf das kommende Jahr!

The campground is definitely nice for kids because there are so many activities to do. I was disappointed, though, by the condition of the grounds—they weren’t particularly well-maintained, and in some areas, like the common facilities (playgrounds), there was trash lying around. The price for 5 days of camping was pretty high, and the campground … wasn’t very attractive for what we paid. The mobile home was also quite expensive and not particularly well-equipped.
The worst part was a visit to the swimming pool, which actually looked very inviting. While we were there, a family arrived in which one person had severely inflamed leg ulcers and still went swimming as if it were perfectly normal. That’s completely unacceptable, as it poses a danger to the other swimmers, especially to toddlers and children.this is a translation, click here for the original
Für Kinder ist der Platz sicher schön, weil es viele Möglichkeiten zu Aktivitäten gibt. Ich war doch enttäuscht über den Pflegezustand des Platzes, der Platz war nicht besonders gepflegt und teilweise auch im Bereich der Gemeinschaftseinrichtungen (Kinderspielplätzen) vermüllt. Der Preis für 5 Tage Camping war ziemlich hoch und dafür war der Platz nicht sehr attraktiv. Auch das Mobilheim war ziemlich teuer und nicht besonders gut ausgestattet.
Das schlimmste war ein Besuch im Schwimmbad, dass eigentlich sehr einladend war. Als wir dort waren, kam eine Familie, bei der eine Person erheblich entzündete Unterschenkelgeschwüre aufwies und trotzdem damit ganz selbstverständlich schwimmen ging. Das geht gar nicht, da es eine Gefahr für die anderen Schwimmgäste darstellt, vor allem für die Kleinkinder und Kinder. -

A really lovely and peaceful campground with a very cozy and beautiful lake. It’s also located in a charming area with opportunities for some pleasant walks.
The nearby restaurant wasn’t anything to write home about.
The pool at the campground wasn’t heated and was incredibly cold. So we almost exclusively swam in the lake, which was warm.
