Venture into nature: Hondsrug Area
The Hondsrug area is a beautiful nature reserve with many different landscapes, such as forests, heathlands, fields, dolmens and bogs. There are several hiking and biking routes, where you can enjoy nature and the beautiful views of the rolling hills. The Hondsrug area also has cultural history in the dozens of dolmens built more than 5,000 years ago by the Funnel Beaker people.

Are you in need of a break during your walking or biking tour? Then make a stop at Theehuis Poolshoogte in Exloo. This cozy and atmospheric teahouse is housed in a former forest ranger's house and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding nature. Besides being the place to go for coffee and cake or a tasty snack, they regularly organize activities such as live music, workshops and guided walks.
De Schaapskooi in Exloo
Wil je meer leren over de schapenhouderij en het leven op de boerderij? Dan is een bezoekje aan de Schaapskooi een educatief en leuk uitje voor zowel kinderen als volwassenen. In de Schaapskooi wonen verschillende schapenrassen en je kan zien hoe de schapen worden gehouden en welke soorten wol ze produceren. Kom je in het voorjaar? Dan is de kans groot dat er lammetjes zijn geboren. En jij of de kinderen kunnen deze schattige dieren aaien en voeren. Er worden ook regelmatig workshops georganiseerd, bijvoorbeeld over wol spinnen en vilten. Op afspraak is het mogelijk om met een herdershond de schapen te drijven. Dit is een unieke ervaring en zeer geschikt voor groepen.
Open Air Museum Ellert and Brammert
The museum is dedicated to the history of rural life in the 19th century and named after the legendary robbers Ellert and Brammert, who are said to have lived in the Schoonoord area. See a reconstruction of the cave in which Ellert and Brammert are said to have lived or tour old Drenthe farms, a blacksmith's shop, a clog factory and a bakery. There is also a peat cutting workshop where you can see how peat was cut and processed into fuel. There are activities and demonstrations, such as old crafts being practiced, and events during the summer months, such as old tractors being demonstrated and performances by traditional dance groups. The museum is in Schoonoord, just an 11-minute drive from the campground.

Wij hebben er bijna een week gestaan, en wij vinden het een prachtige camping zo dichtbij huis, de omgeving is ook prachtig, en het personeel is vriendelijk, verder is alles mooi schoon en wist goed onderhouden. Wij hebben meteen geboekt voor volgend jaar

We hebben een stacaravan. Hele mooie en schone camping. We mogen er heel graag verblijven. Eigenaren en beheerders vriendelijk. Bos dichtbij om te wandelen met de hond. Genoeg vertier en alles dichtbij. Jammer dat sommige campinggasten, vaste plaatsen, zich niet aan de campingregels kunnen houden en toch nog grotere klussen doen.

Fijne, rustige camping midden in de bossen. Wij verbleven in een 4 persoons safari tent en die was echt top. Van alle gemakken voorzien; de bedden waren comfortabel en de douche was ruim en het water was snel warm en perfecte waterdruk. Kortom: het leuke van kamperen zonder de luxe van een “huisje” te moeten missen. Personeel is enorm vriendelijk, sanitair op de camping is schoon en alles ziet er netjes uit. Op het veldje bij de safari tenten is in het midden een kleine speeltuin (met name zandbak). Zwembad is klein maar fijn en schoon. Op vrijdag en zaterdag is er een frietkar, op maandag een viskraam en op bepaalde dagen in de zomer is er ook pizza avond. Broodjes kunnen in de app (of bij de receptie) eenvoudig bestelt worden. Afhalen vanaf 09.00 (net iets te laat voor gezinnen met kleine kinderen die vroeg wakker zijn). In de omgeving is veel te doen en kan er prachtig gewandeld worden (restaurant Poolshoogte op ca 3.5km is echt een aanrader, helemaal in combinatie met een wandeling en bezoekje aan de uitkijktoren!)

We staan er net. Ruime plekken, familie camping. Vriendelijk personeel. Leuk zo'n ijsbakfiets, had wat later mogen komen. Ijsje als toetje. Maar het smaakte erg lekker. Toiletten mooi schoon. Nu kijken hoe het 5 min douchen gaat. Tot nu toe zeker tevreden. Lekker ontspannen.
