Cycling through the Veluwe forests
The Veluwe is a paradise for cyclists. From Forest Park The Sheepfold, you can cycle straight into the vast forests, heathlands and sand drifts. Thanks to the extensive cycling junction network, you can easily put together a route past charming villages, viewpoints and nature reserves. Along the way, you may also spot wild animals such as red deer, wild boar or Scottish Highland cattle. Whether you choose a relaxing bike ride or a sporty route, the Veluwe offers a beautiful route for every cycling enthusiast.

Walk through the centre of Epe
Epe is within cycling distance of the park and has a compact centre with shops, a weekly market and several places to eat. Settle down on the terrace of one of the cafés on Market Square while village life goes on around you. The Saturday market attracts local vendors selling vegetables, cheese and other regional products. After the market, you can walk straight into the surrounding forests via the walking trails that start directly from the village.
Visit the Kröller-Müller Museum in the High Veluwe
About a half-hour drive from Forest Park The Sheepfold is the Kröller-Müller Museum, located in the heart of High Veluwe National Park. Here, you can admire one of the largest Van Gogh collections in the world, alongside works by Mondriaan, Seurat and Picasso, among others. The sculpture garden, featuring works by international artists, is also well worth a visit. Combine your museum visit with an exploration of the national park, where you can use the iconic white bicycles free of charge. Cycle past vast heathlands, forests and sand drifts, and enjoy the peace and nature along the way. The combination of world-famous art, remarkable architecture and the varied Veluwe landscape makes this one of the most beautiful day trips in the region.
A day among the free-roaming monkeys at Monkey Hill
Monkey Hill is located 23 km from Forest Park The Sheepfold, a unique animal park where hundreds of monkeys live in a wooded environment. Unlike in a traditional zoo, several monkey species roam freely here, allowing you to admire the animals up close. Along the walking route, you will discover gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans and many other monkey species as you stroll through the green park. Along the way, you will learn more about their behaviour, habitat and the nature conservation projects that Monkey Hill supports. Thanks to its combination of nature, education and special encounters, this is a fun and educational outing for young and old alike. Allow around two to three hours for a relaxed visit.

An outdated, not very clean cottage; lacks a sharp knife for cutting meat, for example; the pool is small and cold; the park isn't really anything special, but the surrounding area is nice for biking

Just got back from a midweek stay at De Schaapskooi park in Epe. The cottage and the surroundings were spotlessly clean. It was very convenient to be able to get in using a code instead of a key. It was also nice that the toilet was separate from the bathroom. The cottage smelled pleasant, and since we brought our dog along, it could have been … different in a cottage where dogs are welcome. The location of the park and the cottage was also very nice—quiet, yet perfect for walks right from the accommodation. The only thing to note is that the couch needs to be replaced; it had some worn spots. I highly recommend coming here to relax for a while.

The bed was sagging badly, and all sorts of things were broken day and night. The windows were so drafty that air was blowing right through them. The prices are pretty steep—you really need to do the math beforehand, otherwise you’ll be ripping yourself off. The croquettes are really tasty, though. Lots of spiders and spiderwebs. We were glad to be back home. Not much for kids to do. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!

The location is beautiful, but the chalet we stayed in was downright filthy. The tables hadn’t been wiped down at all—or had been wiped down poorly—and were sticky. On top of that, there was a USED washcloth hanging in the shower… It makes me think that nothing was cleaned at all, because how could you possibly miss a washcloth in the shower when … you’re checking to see if the guests left everything in order? We ended up cleaning it ourselves and tried to make the best of it, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it!
When we reported it to the front desk, the response was: “Sorry, that’s not supposed to happen…”
The person behind the counter seemed a bit indifferent.
What a shame!this is a translation, click here for the original
Jammer! -
