Safari tent number 6 with a hot tub. That was a blast—a lovely, sheltered spot. Very cozy and thoughtfully decorated. The outdoor area was also fantastic. I wouldn’t be quick to pitch my own tent at the campground itself—the sites are too close together. But I highly recommend this tent—100%. The sandwiches we ordered were delicious, too.

We arrived with no expectations—just looking for a place to stay for the weekend—and left feeling like we’d discovered a secret. The safari tent immediately stole the show. Spacious, tastefully decorated, and to top it off, there was a hot tub outside on the terrace.
The staff deserves a special mention. From the moment we checked in, everything felt relaxed and warm—no standard small talk, just genuine attention. Questions were answered patiently. That kind of hospitality really makes the difference between an ordinary overnight stay and a pleasant stay.
The campground itself is located on Lake Hilgelo. Everything is well-maintained: the paths, the greenery, and the restrooms, which were spotless every single time. You can tell it’s well-managed.
We did plenty of biking. The region is full of routes, and yes, quite a few unpaved trails through the woods and heathland. With the sun shining, that didn’t matter at all—quite the opposite, in fact. The sand beneath our tires, the scent of pine trees, and the occasional rabbit darting away into the bushes. Exactly the kind of adventure that keeps you going all weekend long.
In short: small-scale, personal, beautifully situated, and that safari tent with a hot tub is a must-try. We’ll definitely be back.

A nice safari tent at a very quiet campground.

A very nice campground, located within walking distance of the lake and the beach. The RV sites are great and conveniently located. There’s a bike path around the lake right next to the campground. Very beautiful surroundings near Winterswyk. We’d love to come back.
