Let me start with the positives. The girls on the entertainment team on Tuesday and Wednesday were enthusiastic and kind to our children. The staff in the restaurant on Monday also did their best.

That’s it for the positives. We were actually supposed to stay for 3 nights, but after 2 nights we’d had enough. Reasons:

• There were ants everywhere—all over the kitchen, the dining table, and the floor. It was almost impossible to cut anything.
• The closet in the master bedroom was broken when we arrived.
• After it was repaired, we found a dirty piece of clothing left behind by a previous tenant. The white garment was already quite yellowed in some places. In short, it hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time.
• The pots and cups in the cupboard were too dirty to use as is. There were literally caked-on food scraps in the pots, and coffee grounds were still in the coffee cups. The park’s solution was to provide an extra dishwasher tablet. How convenient—let the new tenant deal with it. We only washed what we really needed ourselves. So the next tenant will likely run into the same problem.
• The smell in the cottage was downright rancid. This was partly caused by the black mold in the bathroom and the dirty piece of clothing in the closet.
• The window screens were broken. So why are they still there at all?
• During peak season, the restaurant is only open from Friday through Monday. On the other days, the square in front of it looks rather forlorn.
• To top it all off, we were even intimidated by a staff member at the pool on the second day.

We reported all of the above, and we also mentioned it when we checked out a day early. The receptionist said she found it upsetting and that she would discuss it. But of course, that doesn’t solve anything.

You can’t really blame her, though, because she doesn’t clean the cottage and she doesn’t work at the pool. This way, no one has to take responsibility.

In Topparken’s own survey about our experience, I indicated that they could contact me to discuss my complaints. I’m curious to see if they’ll actually do that.

We’ve been to other Topparken locations many times before. This was our first time at Bosvallei. So it was our first visit to this park, but also our last time with Topparken.

We stayed there for 12 days during summer vacation as a family with three children (ages 1, 5, and 7) in a family bungalow with its own small playground right outside the door. The resort wasn’t overcrowded despite it being vacation time

The indoor pool appears to be permanently closed. However, this was communicated in advance, and we were proactively given a 10% discount. It’s certainly not a big deal for a summer vacation, but it’s probably not so great during other seasons. It would be nice to have 1–2 small features, especially in the toddler pool. That was a bit dreary. It would also be great to have something in the “big” pool, but given the pool’s size, that wouldn’t make much sense. It’s just that nothing is huge. But on the other hand, it’s not overcrowded either.

The X-Wall next to the indoor playground got stuck on one of the play structures. The facility is generally more suited for younger children up to age 12 at most. That said, the entertainment team does put on some cool activities during school breaks.

The bungalow is nice. The rooms are pretty cramped—I guess that’s where the low price comes from. What I don’t understand, though, is why they don’t offer a little more storage space. With five people, we quickly end up with 15 pairs of shoes (sandals, slippers, low-top shoes, flip-flops…), and there’s no shoe cabinet—even though there would be room for one if it weren’t for a locked chest with no apparent purpose standing in the way. That would prevent a lot of chaos. The only shelf in the living and dining area is at belly height for our 1-year-old, who pulls everything out. A small shelf on the wall a bit higher up would suffice. Not having enough cutlery for two meals is annoying at any vacation park; otherwise, the amenities are good, and the bungalow’s exterior is also a nice place to relax and sit.

The resort is beautifully situated. We rented bikes for the kids—they were well-maintained and rode smoothly, though the brake lever was hard for our 5-year-old to reach. The surrounding area is perfect for bike rides—it’s a wonderful region.

We’d definitely come back a third time, but this time we’ll be traveling to a different province. We’ll definitely be staying with Topparken again, though.

Beautiful location. Unfortunately, we booked cottage no. 78 with a jacuzzi, and it turned out the jacuzzi wasn’t working properly. According to the maintenance technician, this had been the case for quite some time. We also noticed that the area was very open, so there was no privacy and little to no fencing. With a 1.5-year-old, that was a real shame, especially since it was right next to an intersection.

Switching to another cottage wasn’t an option because they only have two cottages with a jacuzzi. Their suggestion to move to the adjacent Schellenberg park—which has 50 jacuzzis—didn’t work out in the end because the cottage there was larger. They offered compensation of 50% of the wellness costs, but that wouldn’t have made up for the unpleasant vacation we’d had.

We ended up finding an equivalent alternative in Beekbergen ourselves after spending just 5 minutes on the website applying the right filters. Strangely enough, they couldn’t find it themselves… but that was handled quickly and efficiently. So after 1.5 days, we moved there, were warmly welcomed, and our vacation was saved!

By the way, the park’s fries were really tasty! People everywhere were friendly too, but unfortunately not very proactive.
