De Smulhoeve was our first Farmcamps experience, and this is truly an amazing place! We’re sold. A one-week vacation felt like three weeks. It’s such a wonderful place to unwind.

It was our first time at a Farmcamps, and we were a bit hesitant at first, but the kids had a blast. Well, I don’t think we’d want anything else now. The kids had a blast from early in the morning until late at night. We didn’t even need to go out for a day trip, because the farm is never boring. Feeding and petting the animals, horseback riding, picking up our sweet pony to care for, and letting it graze peacefully near the tent. And the kids are still talking about the amazing trampoline. Life is simple, but oh so relaxing on the farm.

Farmer Karin is super friendly, caring, and enthusiastic. She has a big heart for both her animals and her guests. She and her husband really make it a party for everyone.
Is it hot? We’ll happily turn on the sprinklers, or feel free to fill a wheelbarrow with cold water.
Don’t feel like cooking? They have pizza night twice a week. Delicious, freshly made pizzas, followed by roasting marshmallows over a campfire.
Feeling a little bored? Then you can enjoy fun activities like hiking with the alpacas or making horseshoe crafts. Or just collect as many stamps as possible on your farm passport to earn your certificate at the end of the week!

We stayed in a luxury lodge tent. We’ve never slept so well—snug under our comforter, even on the hottest days. The tent cools down quickly. The beds are wonderful, and the shower has a great water pressure. We soon started calling our tent “our little house.” Because aside from the fact that the walls are made of tent fabric, it’s no less luxurious than a vacation cottage. The playhouse, where the kids could sleep downstairs and play upstairs, quickly became the hangout spot for all the kids at the campground—a place to cool off from all the running and playing and catch their breath. Awesome!

Our pony was incredibly sweet, and we really enjoyed spending time with him. Farmer Karin pairs each child with a suitable pony, and she did a fantastic job. My daughter had never ridden a horse before, and by the end of the week she was walking and trotting around the arena on her own. That saved Mom a lot of running around, haha.

Besides riding, you can also help take care of the other horses and ponies, and you can even bring your pony back to the tent after riding and in the afternoon. So you really get to enjoy your pony a lot and can keep yourself pretty busy with it if you want to. This does mean tears when it’s time to say goodbye, because we’re going to miss everything—and especially “Big Tommie,” the pony—but this was the first vacation where the kids didn’t get homesick. That says a lot!

We had such a fantastic vacation here. The owners were so sweet, and they paid so much attention to all the kids—there’s so much to do here. The private pony was a huge hit. The kids have been having a blast on the playground all day long. The girls who help out are also super sweet to the kids and make them feel really special by letting them take care of all the animals. It was really, really so much fun!!
