Surroundings

Explore the surroundings by bike or on foot

In the surroundings of Hardenberg, there is a beautiful natural landscape with hills, meadows, and the river De Vecht. In the Overijsselse Vechtdal, there are various cycling and walking routes that take you past beautiful spots. Walking in the Vechtdal has a long tradition and for the real long-distance walker, there is the Pieterpad and the Vechtdalpad. The latter route also teaches you a lot about the history of this area.

Discover Vechtdal from the water

Take to the water in a canoe or sloop and be surprised by the beautiful, natural surroundings. In the Afzaktocht of 12 km on the Vecht and the Regge you canoe along beautiful spots where you can stop for a picnic or a swim. Don't feel like paddling? Then rent a sloop that allows you to get a breath of fresh air on the water.

Go on safari

You don't have to leave the country at all to go on safari. In the Netherlands, at Erve Vechtdal in Overijssel, you can go on a cow safari. With the tractor-trailer, you and farmer Simone go straight through the nature reserve in search of the Brandrode Rund, a rare Dutch cow. These animals live outside all year round in this beautiful area and on the banks of the river De Vecht. Farmer Simone's enthusiasm and humor make the day and stories extra fun. Along the way you stop to admire the view and play "cow search". Would you like to make the safari complete? Then book the deluxe version, "Koesafari op stand" including lunch and dinner.

A day in Hardenberg

In the center of Hardenberg, you can enjoy a day of shopping or culture. Hardenberg has many cozy boutiques and stores. In between, or at the end of the day, sit down on one of the many terraces in town. And do you like art? Then take a walk along the art route. This city walk introduces you to the art in Hardenberg in a fun and active way. The route takes you past 14 different works of art scattered throughout the city. For more culture and history of Vechtdal, a visit to the Vechtdal Museum in Hardenberg is highly recommended. And are you glamping in Overijssel at the end of June? Then don't miss the Hardenberg balloon festival.
