Glamping at De Tolplas in Twente with recreational lake and sandy beach
Recreation park De Tolplas is located in Twente, on the edge of De Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. The heart of the park is a large recreational lake with a beach. Here you can swim, float on an air mattress or rent a SUP board. Fishing is also possible, so bringing a fishing rod is worthwhile. Restaurant De Tolplas overlooks the water and serves lunch and dinner, with a terrace on sunny days and takeaway meals if you’d rather arrange your own evening. Children can have fun in the playground with trampoline, the panna cage or on a rented go-kart. There are also tennis courts, a table tennis table and a jeu de boules court. Mountain bikes are available to rent for a ride through the rolling hills of De Sallandse Heuvelrug, where walking and cycling routes have also been set out. Avonturenpark Hellendoorn is nearby for anyone wanting a day with more excitement.

Walk through the Sallandse Heuvelrug
The Sallandse Heuvelrug is one of the most varied natural areas in Overijssel, with open heathlands, forests and drifting sand dunes alternating with one another. You walk along clearly signposted trails past special plant species and sometimes spot a black grouse. If you prefer cycling, take one of the cycling routes that run right through the landscape. In the late afternoon, take a moment at one of the higher points: the heathland colors in the distance make an impression without needing a word to be said.

Step into the Wierdense Veld
The Wierdense Veld is a raised bog area near Hoge Hexel, where you walk over wooden boardwalks through a landscape of sphagnum moss and small pools. On clear days, you can see far across the open expanse. The area is a breeding ground for meadow birds, so keep your eyes open: a bittern or snipe is not unusual here. The route is short enough for a morning walk and quieter than the larger nature reserves in the region.
Experience a day at Avonturenpark Hellendoorn
At Avonturenpark Hellendoorn, step into the Netherlands' longest white-water ride, shoot through a roller coaster in the dark, and go laser gaming in the cellars of a country house. For those who want to travel the world without a plane ticket: the Discovery Club takes you along various continents. The park is packed with activities all day long, so plan your visit early to beat the most popular attractions. Hellendoorn is located just under ten kilometers from the park.
Cycling through Overijssel from the park
Around Hoge Hexel there are dozens of kilometers of signposted cycle paths, from the node network that takes you past farmyards and small settlements to longer routes toward the Sallandse Heuvelrug. You can hop on your bike directly from the park and decide along the way how long you want to keep going. A fifty-kilometer loop takes you past the Wierdense Veld, through Wierden and back via the country lanes of the Reggedal. Anyone who wants to stop halfway will almost always find a little terrace in the small villages along the route.
