In 2004, Mario's dream became a reality. In honor of Axel's sixtieth liberation celebration, he opened a private museum in his barn on Tweede Verkorting. The museum now spans most of the barn, with a cozy museum café and historic vehicles on the first floor. Camping de Vogel is within walking distance of the small village of Hengstdijk in South Zeeland, not far from the Belgian border. We were greeted courteously at reception, where the staff speak Dutch, English and German. There are various categories on the campsite, from simple pitches to luxurious mobile homes. The mobile home we stayed in was probably in the middle segment, but was very well equipped. When we visited de Vogel in October, we immediately noticed how quiet it was there, the nights were absolutely silent - we really didn't expect that, it was very relaxing. The campsite has two soccer pitches, a small petting zoo, numerous playgrounds, a swimming pool with a really great water slide, a restaurant and a mini golf course. There is also a small store, although it was sparsely stocked in October. Among other things, you can buy bread rolls here in the morning. The disadvantage is that you have to get in the car for every larger purchase; we found the nearest really large stores with a good selection in Terneuzen. However, if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet and/or just want to get out and about by bike, this is a well-developed and well-equipped vacation resort.
