Taste local beer at The Half Moon Brewery

The Half Moon Brewery in Bruges has been brewing beer in the heart of the city for generations. You can take a tour of the brewery, where you will see the brewing kettles, the coolship and the storage rooms. Afterwards, you can taste the beer in the brewery's own tavern, where dishes that complement the flavours are also served. The brewery also has an underground beer pipeline to a café on the edge of the city. Beer lovers can take a bottle home with them.

Kayaking on the Western Scheldt

The Western Scheldt is a broad, open stretch of water with strong currents and tides. Organised canoe routes follow the calmer creeks in the polders, where you can paddle sheltered from the wind and current. Along the banks, you will see reed beds, meadow birds and sometimes a seal on a sandbank. Rental locations in the region provide equipment and explain the tides, which you need to take into account when planning. It is an activity that makes the polder landscape of Zeelandic Flanders look completely different at water level.

Breskens and the crossing to Flushing

Breskens is a short distance from the park and is a pleasant seaside resort with a lively fishing harbour, atmospheric terraces and a variety of shops. Stroll along the quay, taste fresh fish or enjoy the view over the Western Scheldt as impressive seagoing ships pass by. The ferry to Flushing departs from the harbour, taking you to the other side of the Western Scheldt in around twenty minutes. There, you can walk straight onto the promenade and discover a lively city with shops, restaurants and a historic town centre. The crossing is an experience in itself, with beautiful views over one of Europe's busiest shipping routes. In a single outing, you can effortlessly combine the charm of Breskens with the lively atmosphere of Flushing.

Cycling and birdwatching at the Zwin Nature Park

About a twenty-minute drive away is the Zwin Nature Park, a special nature reserve on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium. This vast tidal landscape consists of mudflats, salt marshes, dunes and creeks, and is a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers. Thanks to the well-designed walking and cycling paths, you can explore the area at your own pace while enjoying wide-open views and the peace of nature. Be sure to bring binoculars, as you can regularly spot spoonbills, storks and other special bird species from the various viewpoints. At the visitor centre, you can learn more about how the area was formed and the unique interplay between sea, wind and nature. A wonderful destination for an active day outdoors.

    We usually book our accommodations in Breskens through private hosts and have always had positive experiences. Since most were either booked or simply too expensive, we booked through Landal.

    The value for money was okay. Communication was fine.

    However, some things weren’t quite what we had imagined.

    Up until now, there had … always been a starter kit: including a roll of toilet paper, a sponge, and a dishwasher tablet, among other things. Not this time. There wasn’t even a single sheet of toilet paper in the bathroom. Luckily, we had some with us. But if you don’t have any...
    ...according to the front desk, the starter kit has been discontinued for cost reasons. In my opinion, that’s unacceptable. There should at least be a roll of toilet paper.

    On top of that, there were several issues inside the chalet—issues that a cleaning staff member definitely should have noticed:

    Lampshade damaged in two places and crooked.
    Carpet trim not secure and loose.
    Shower drain clogged with hair—shower water barely drains.
    Side panel of the radiator completely loose.
    Window pane only moderately clean. Cleaning staff apparently not thorough enough.
    Plus, a lot of dust in corners, etc.
    Also, many spiders in the corners

    Normalerweise buchen wir unsere Unterkünfte in Breskens bei Privat und haben immer positive Erfahrungen gemacht. Da die meisten entweder belegt oder schlichtweg zu teuer waren haben wir über Landal gebucht.

    Preis/Leistung war in Ordnung. Kommunikation in Ordnung.

    Einige Dinge waren aber nicht so wie wir uns diese vorgestellt haben.

    Bislang gab es immer ein Starter Kit: ua mit einer Rolle Klopapier, einem Schwamm und einem Spülmaschinentab. Diesmal nicht. Auch auf der Toilette kein Blatt Klopapier. Zum Glück hatten wir welches dabei. Aber wer keins dabei hat......
    ...laut Aussage der Rezeption aus Kostengründen gibt es kein Starter Kit mehr. Aus meiner Sicht unmöglich. Zumindest eine Rolle Klopapier sollte vorhanden sein.

    Dazu etliche Mängel innerhalb des Chalets. Mängel die auf jeden Fall einer Reinigungskraft hätten auffallen müssen:

    Lampenschirm an zwei Stellen defekt und schief.
    Teppichleiste nicht fest und lose
    Duschablauf verstopft mit Haaren - fast kein Abfluss des Duschwassers
    Seitliche Blende Heizkörper total lose
    Fensterscheibe nur mäßig sauber. Reinigungskraft scheinbar zu klein.
    Dazu viel Staub in Ecken etc.
    Dazu auch viele Spinnen in den Ecken

    Schade eigentlich. Daher nur drei Sterne

    Beautiful park; just cross the dunes at the park exit and you’re on the beach. Wonderfully maintained, No. 825. Equipped with all the standard amenities, including a large garden with a table and chairs, lounge chairs, and a picnic table. Plenty of privacy and right on the water. Large lockable shed for bicycles. Park your car right by the house; … importantly for electric cars, there are 6 charging stations just 100 meters away.
    The staff at the front desk are super friendly and helpful.
    The park is well maintained.

    Mooi park, uitgang park duinen oversteken en je bent op het strand. Prachtig huisgehouden, nr. 825. Van alle normale gemakken voorzien met een grote tuin met tafel en stoelen, ligbedden en picknick tafel. Veel vrijheid en direct aan het water. Grote afsluitbare schuur voor de fietsen. Auto parkeren bij het huis, belangrijk voor electrische auto's zijn er op 100 meter 6 oplaad stations.
    Medewerksters balie super aardig en behulpzaam.
    Park wordt goed bijgehouden.
