The location makes it a brilliant base for adventure. You’re only about 20 minutes from junction 25 of the M5, so it’s easy to reach, yet once you arrive you’re surrounded by peaceful countryside. Exmoor National Park is just a five-minute drive away, with superb walking trails, rolling hills, and a friendly pub on the way for a drink or a hearty meal.

Fancy a day by the sea? The wild and beautiful West Somerset coast near Minehead is around half an hour away. In about an hour you can reach the picturesque East Devon coast around Lyme Regis and Sidmouth, ideal for seaside strolls and fresh seafood. Surfers and beach lovers can head to the North Devon and North Cornwall coasts, just over an hour’s drive, for waves and wide sandy beaches.

In autumn, Exmoor’s famous Dark Sky Festival turns the area into a paradise for stargazers, with wonderfully clear night skies and almost no light pollution. Back at Higher House, you’re set in the peaceful grounds of a small country house, surrounded by nature and birdsong. The friendly owners live nearby and are happy to help you plan your days out or share their favourite local spots.
