Peaceful family glamping along the Kleine Nete; Camping Houtum
Camping Houtum is located in the heart of the Belgian Kempen, close to Kasterlee. The park has a playground and borders the De Putten recreation area. Active guests can play beach volleyball or jeu de boules, explore the Kempen by bike, or walk through the surrounding forests. The Kleine Nete river flows right past the park and is well suited for a canoe trip. After an active day, Café de Congé is the place to unwind with a drink or a snack. The café also regularly organizes activities. Outside the park, there are plenty of excursions to enjoy: the Kabouterberg and the TrekJanPad are popular with families, and Bobbejaanland is a short distance away. Antwerp can be reached within an hour for those who want to spend a day in the city.

Taste local beers in a Kempen café
The Kempen has several small breweries and cafés that serve their own or regional beers. In Kasterlee and the surrounding villages, you’ll find cafés where the beer tap list includes local beers alongside the major brands. You order a glass at the bar, ask which brewery is behind it, and usually get a story as a bonus. A beer cycling route past several hospitality venues in the region is a popular way to spend the afternoon.

Visit amusement park Bobbejaanland
Bobbejaanland is located a short distance from the park and is one of Belgium's largest amusement parks. From spectacular roller coasters and splashing water attractions to fun family attractions: there is fun for young and old alike. Preferably set off early, so that you can enjoy the whole day to the fullest. After a day full of excitement and thrills, you'll also be back at the campsite in no time to relax again.
Canoeing on the Kleine Nete
The Kleine Nete winds through the green landscape of the Belgian Kempen and is one of the most beautiful places in the area to go canoeing or kayaking. Along the way, step into a canoe and let yourself be carried along the calm water, past forests, reed beds and natural banks. Thanks to the gentle current, the river is suitable for both beginners and families with children. Along the way, enjoy the silence of nature and have a chance to spot various birds and other animals. In season, there are several rental points where you can easily hire a canoe or kayak. Whether you choose a short trip or a longer route, a day on the Kleine Nete lets you experience the Kempen from a completely different perspective.
Walk through the Campine forests and heathlands
Around Kasterlee stretches a varied landscape of forests, heathlands, ponds and sandy paths. From the park’s surroundings, you can walk straight into nature without first having to get in the car. Follow one of the signposted routes past tall pine trees, quiet bodies of water and open stretches of heath that turn beautifully purple at the end of summer. For a short walk, choose a compact loop, while keen walkers can combine several routes into a half-day hike. Along the way, enjoy peace, space and the typically Campine landscape. Bring something to drink, put on sturdy shoes and let the scenery set the pace.

Due to unforeseen personal circumstances, we had to cancel our vacation at the very last minute.
This was, of course, incredibly disappointing, but the email correspondence that followed was so warm and understanding.
You can tell from everything that Camping Houtum is a true family business where a personal approach comes first. We received … a full refund of the vast majority of the travel cost. This kind of sincere commitment and flexibility is truly special, and we appreciate it immensely.
When a campground is this accommodating toward its guests, you know that the hospitality on the grounds themselves is also top-notch. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to stay there this time, but we’d love to come back here again in the future!"this is a translation, click here for the original
