Stepping into history at Ooidonk Castle

Take the car and after a 20-minute drive, stand in front of Ooidonk Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Belgium. From April to November, it is possible on Sundays and holidays to take a guided tour of this still-inhabited castle, where you will learn more about the rich history of this medieval fortified castle. In July and August also on Saturdays. Would you like to stroll through the beautiful green gardens? That's possible from Tuesday afternoon to Sunday.

Strolling through Ghent

This glamping in East Flanders is less than 5 km from the lively city of Ghent. A city is full of history, old canals, medieval masterpieces, cozy bars, and restaurants. The Graslei and the Korenlei are the oldest and perhaps the most beautiful and cozy places in Ghent. Here you will find many nice catering establishments. Of course, tasting the real Ghent Noses should not be missed. You can find the best ones in one of the carts on the Groentenmarkt.

Venture into nature

In the natural surroundings, you will find endless cycling and walking routes. Less than 2 km from the glamping is the urban nature reserve Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen. This park, which covers 220 hectares, has three hiking trails that take you past beautiful green nature with meadows and forest areas. Tens of thousands of birds perch in this area every year. There are special bird-watching huts along the way where you can spot the most beautiful birds undisturbed.

Plenty of fun at Blaarmeersen Sports and Recreation Park

Glamping at Urban Gardens Ghent means free access to the Blaarmeersen Sports and Recreation Park. In this green park with a large pond, there are plenty of water sports activities to do. Get in a canoe or kayak and paddle up the Leie. Learn to water ski or go pedal boating. For children, there is a water playground with a slide and a sandy beach that completes the recreation park. There is also plenty of fun to be had on dry land. For example, there is a skate park, a climbing rock and you can play mini-golf. For children, there is a large playground with a maze and you can play beach volleyball. The recreation park also has a hiking trail where you can completely relax with a hiking mountain and observation tower to admire the surroundings.

The site is located in a recreational area with free access to a swimming lake and walking opportunities around the water. Renovation works are ongoing: new sanitary blocks are modern and clean, but older blocks urgently need refurbishment. Many visitors complain about muddy pitches after rain, noise pollution from the nearby motorway, and electrical hook-ups located too far away requiring extra-long cables.

    We’ve stayed at Urban Gardens in our camper van before as it’s great for last night or two after touring, just an hrs run down to the tunnel in the morning. We decided to come and stay for 4 nights and bring our bikes for a first go at cycling in Europe. It’s a brilliant little site . So close to the beautiful town of Ypra, fantastic food and … beer as well as the Menin Gate. Cycling routes available from the site were great: we were able to easily visit Tyne Cott, Hill 62 and Pachendale.
    The newly refurbished reception is stunning and the shower and toilets are so warm , clean and inviting. Staff are friendly and the whole process is easy and efficient.
    We will be back again soon I am sure!

    The renovation is coming along nicely. The parts that are finished look great and are a pleasure to use.

    What a little gem of a campsite!! Amazing location with a bus service into Gent on the doorstep. Brand new facilities which were a real treat to use. Friendly, kind, genuinely lovely staff. Pizzas on site were delicious. Pitches were flags on top of grass to drive onto, not fully hard standing, but quite large and did the job. A ling electric cable is needed!! Definitely go back. Gent was truly beautiful.

    Good well spaced pitches. Clean facilities. Bus into the city every 10 minutes. Nice walk around Blaarmeeson. We arrived just after a storm so quite a lot of tree debris lying around & muddy puddles. Quite close to the hospital & university so lots of sirens at times. Some noise from the traffic but didn’t disturb us. Pizza available on site for teatime & you can order fresh items for breakfast if you wish. We enjoyed our stay.

    It’s a really nice RV park with very clean and well-maintained restrooms. Even during these rainy and stormy days in late October, the restrooms were spotless. Even the ones in the “older” restroom building! The nearby bus stop is perfect, though a bit pricey at 3.00 per person for a one-way trip to the city center. Get a digital 10-ride pass from … De Lijn, and it comes out to 2.20 euros per ride. Urban Gardens itself also charges fairly steep prices: 49 euros per night for 2 adults and 1 teenager on a paved RV site, 1.00 for a (small) hard roll, and 1.70 for a (small) croissant. For spring and summer, I can understand the price for a campsite because of the nearby swimming lake, but starting in September, they could certainly lower it a bit.

    Het is een hele fijne camperplaats met heel schoon en net sanitair. Zelfs tijdens deze regen- en stormachtige dagen eind oktober waren de toiletten superschoon. Ook die in het "oudere" toiletgebouw! De bushalte vlakbij is perfect, hoewel aardig aan de prijs met 3,- per persoon per enkele rit naar het centrum. Neem een digitale 10-rittenkaart bij De Lijn dan wordt dat 2,20 euro per rit. Urban Gardens zelf hanteert ook best behoorlijke prijzen met 49,- euro per nacht voor 2 volwassenen en 1 tiener op een verharde camperplaats en 1,00 voor een (klein) hard broodje en 1,70 voor een (klein) croissantje. Voor lente en zomer begrijp ik de prijs voor een standplaats nog wel ivm het omliggende zwemmeer, maar vanaf september mag het best een tandje minder.
