Stepping into history at Ooidonk Castle

Take the car and after a 20-minute drive, stand in front of Ooidonk Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Belgium. From April to November, it is possible on Sundays and holidays to take a guided tour of this still-inhabited castle, where you will learn more about the rich history of this medieval fortified castle. Of course, tasting the real Ghent Noses should not be missed. You can find the best ones in one of the carts on the Groentenmarkt.

Venture into nature

In the natural surroundings, you will find endless cycling and walking routes. Less than 2 km from the glamping is the urban nature reserve Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen. This park, which covers 220 hectares, has three hiking trails that take you past beautiful green nature with meadows and forest areas. Tens of thousands of birds perch in this area every year. There are special bird-watching huts along the way where you can spot the most beautiful birds undisturbed.

Plenty of fun at Blaarmeersen Sports and Recreation Park

There is also plenty of fun to be had on dry land. For example, there is a skate park, a climbing rock and you can play mini-golf. For children, there is a large playground with a maze and you can play beach volleyball. The recreation park also has a hiking trail where you can completely relax with a hiking mountain and observation tower to admire the surroundings.

Renovation works are ongoing: new sanitary blocks are modern and clean, but older blocks urgently need refurbishment. Many visitors complain about muddy pitches after rain, noise pollution from the nearby motorway, and electrical hook-ups located too far away requiring extra-long cables.

    We really enjoyed our stay at this campground. Good bus service to the city. Spacious sites, and the new restroom facility looks nice and practical. Friendly staff. Highly recommended for a city trip to Ghent.

    What a great campsite! We booked to originally stay for one but ended up staying for 2. The reception and bar staff were lovely and so helpful. The printed map plus the guides on getting the bus into Ghent were great, especially for foreigners like us. We stayed on the side with the new sanitary block which was lovely, but also used the old block … when we went to the bar and that was perfectly fine too. Pizzas are amazing. They are currently doing some serious upgrading there, but was never bothered by any of the work. It will be amazing when completed- very much looking forward to returning 😄

    We were pleasantly surprised after reading a few negative reviews. The campsites are very spacious and separated from one another by hedges. The separate areas give the campground a rather tranquil and cozy feel. Some of the restroom facilities are a bit older, but there are also several new buildings available. We barely heard any noise from the … construction site, and the pizzeria/bar was open too (delicious wood-fired pizza!). The location just outside the city, with the adjacent sports facilities and the small lake, feels like a little oasis in the countryside; yet thanks to the good bus and bike connections, you can get into the city very quickly. It’s also a great choice for a trip lasting several days!

    Wir waren positiv überrascht, nachdem wir einige negative Kommentare gelesen hatten. Die Stellplätze sind sehr großzügig und durch Hecken voneinander abgetrennt. Durch die einzelnen Bereiche wirkt der Campingplatz eher beschaulich und gemütlich. Die Sanitäranlagen sind zum Teil etwas älter, aber es stehen auch einige neue Bauten zur Verfügung. Die vorhandene Baustelle hat man kaum gehört, auch die Pizzaria/Bar hatte geöffnet (leckere Holzofenpizza!). Die Lage vor der Stadt mit den angrenzenden Sportanlagen und dem kleinen See wirkt wie eine kleine Oase im Grünen, trotzdem ist man durch die gute Anbindung mit Bus oder Fahrrad sehr schnell in der Stadt. Auch für einen mehrtägigen Trip eine gute Wahl!
