Chalet “Drôles d’écureuil” is a modern, cosy cabin for up to 4 people, tucked away in the woods between Oignies-en-Thiérache in Belgium and the charming French village of Fumay. It’s the perfect spot if you love nature, silence and long walks right from your front door.

Inside, you’ll find a bright, contemporary living room with large windows that let the forest views steal the show. There’s a comfy sofa to curl up on, a dining table for relaxed meals together and a sleek, fully equipped kitchen where you can easily cook your favourite dishes.

The master bedroom at the back of the chalet has a double bed and a big sliding window. Open it in the morning and you’re greeted by pure greenery and fresh forest air. The children’s room has sturdy bunk beds and its own DVD player – ideal for a cosy movie night after a day outside.

From the living room, the huge glass doors open onto a very spacious terrace. It’s made for long lazy mornings with coffee, reading a book in the sun or enjoying a glass of wine under the stars. Because the terrace has no railing, it’s less suitable if you’re travelling with very young children who like to wander.

There’s no TV and no internet in the chalet on purpose – this is a place to unplug, slow down and really enjoy being together. Instead of screens, you get birdsong, forest views and plenty of hiking options in the immediate surroundings.

The chalet is cleverly built with solar panels, underfloor heating and extra insulation, so there are no additional energy costs. In winter, it stays pleasantly warm and cosy, but do keep in mind that snow chains are usually necessary when it snows.
