General information
Glamping holidays are becoming increasingly popular. However, it's not new: the trend blew over from Africa a few years ago. A wealthy man wanted to become one with the beautiful African nature during his safari, but didn’t want to give up the luxury he was used to. The ‘safaritent’ was born. Camping in the open nature, but with a furnished kitchen, your own toilet and shower, and a wonderful bed instead of an air mattress.
To keep out the heat of the lovely Croatian sun, this accommodation provides refreshing air. The Safaritent + private bathroom + air conditioning is equipped not only with a toilet, shower and air conditioning, but also with an atmospheric kitchen, table, chairs and a wardrobe for all your holiday outfits. This luxurious safaritent comes standard with five beds: 1x double bed, 1x single bed, and a very sturdy bunk bed. Duvets and pillows are, of course, provided as standard when you go glamping. Fitted sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases you can bring yourself or easily rent. You can also rent a baby package, consisting of a safe cot and a sturdy high chair. This tough safaritent features a wooden veranda and a luxurious lounge set under a spacious awning, so you can relax outside whatever the weather.
The tent fabric between the veranda and the living area can be partially or fully opened as you wish, creating even more living space: maximum enjoyment of the outdoors while still covered. Relax with a lovely glass of wine and a book, enjoying the peace and space of the Croatian nature. And all that without having to walk across the campsite with that endless toilet roll under your arm!

Camping Valkanela is beautifully situated on a bay with crystal-clear water and offers modern, well-maintained sanitary facilities that are constantly kept clean. Guests appreciate the spacious pitches, swimming pools, and restaurants, as well as the friendly staff. However, complaints are regularly made about the high prices of food, drinks, and extra services at the park, and some visitors experience noise disturbances from music and parties late into the night. There are also complaints about crowding at reception and long waiting times during check-in.

In mid-July 2026, we stayed at this campground—which is beautifully situated between Vrsar and Funtana—for the second time, for three weeks. We had a site right by the sea on the peninsula and can highly recommend this corner of this truly large campground. Overall, the campground’s facilities seem a bit dated (in some wash houses, even minor repairs aren’t being done, and the Konsum supermarket on the grounds also looks a bit outdated). However, the on-site staff—especially in the wash houses—more than makes up for much of this impression. Unfortunately, the size of the campground also attracts a certain number of socially inconsiderate guests even during peak season, which manifests itself mainly at night through vandalism in the wash houses or rowdy behavior by groups of teenagers. Despite numerous complaints (see Facebook comments about Valkanela), the Maistra Valkanela management remains far too passive; as standard, there is only one security guard for the entire campground. Maistra needs to be much more consistent and visible here, in the interest of everyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing vacation here. We’ll still be coming back, though—the location remains a dream.

If you’re looking for a bustling, well-organized campground in Croatia, this is the place to be. The pools are large and great. There’s also a deep, nice and cold pool—perfect on hot days. If you’re more of a beach person, you’ll find plenty to enjoy here, too. The campground is located on a bay with calm seawater, surrounded by a group of islands. The campground is geared toward families with children. There’s plenty to do, but you have to pay for everything. Even a game of table tennis costs money. The lounge chairs by the pool and at the beach cost money. Basically, everything costs money. But that shouldn’t spoil the fun. We had a few issues with our mobile home, but after sending a message to the campground staff, they were quickly resolved. So, all good. There are a number of restaurants that are also quite decent. The campsites and mobile homes are all a bit closer together than we’re used to in, say, France. Also, everyone at the campground here rides electric scooters, kick scooters, and the like—from small children to adults. A tip: don’t camp too close to the pool or the beach, because you’ll be stuck there until midnight dealing with the noise from either the pool or the entertainment/people by the water.

The four of us (2 adults and 2 teenagers) stayed here for one week, from August 1, 2026, to August 8, 2026. This cost us €788 for a standard caravan site. The campground is very large, and it took us a while to find our way to our spot. Once we arrived, we were on a corner spot with a path about 2 meters wide next to it. Next to this path were three large trash cans and another seven smaller ones. Because they were so close, we could clearly smell the odor from them right at our site. They were also completely full, and in the morning, the seagulls would pick through the trash and scatter it everywhere. As a result, there was a used tampon lying next to our campsite. The next morning, I went to the front desk to ask if the trash cans could be emptied and moved a little further away. There, they were farther from us, and no one else was bothered by them either. The woman at the front desk said she had made a note of it. I also bought two tokens for the washing machine and one for the dryer, for a total of 17.5€. The next day, I went back to the front desk to report the trash can issue again. Once again, another woman told me she had logged it in the system. I also sent an email about it that same day. That evening, the trash cans were emptied, but everything that had been left next to them in the meantime—including the tampon—wasn’t taken away. After they were emptied, I moved them a few meters myself so the smell wouldn’t bother us as much. The standard sites aren’t completely level either; I had to fully extend my caravan legs to get them on the ground. You could see that several other people couldn’t get their mobile homes or caravans to sit completely flush with the ground. The campground also has significant elevation changes. The sites are about a 10-minute walk from both the pool and the large beach in the bay. Once you arrive at the pool, you can rent a lounge chair for 10€/day; if you paid 20€, you got two chairs with a umbrella. We found this rather pricey and decided to look elsewhere. Next to the pool, there’s a large grassy area with some shaded spots, but a significant portion of it had grass and sand that were constantly muddy. There are two larger pools with a wading pool in between. One pool is 3.4 meters deep on one side. At the snack bar, they were often out of ice cream. If you go to the beach, it’s the same story with the lounge chairs. So we ended up lying on the concrete steps and floor a bit off to the side. If you have a beach umbrella, you’d better bring a stand with you. If you want to go snorkeling, there isn’t really much to see here either. The restroom building near our site, No. 11, was always very clean, and there was always plenty of toilet paper available. However, I think this was the oldest restroom building they still had. In the men’s section, there were three regular toilets, one children’s toilet, and two French-style toilets. There were enough showers, but each was a single cubicle with a double coat hook and a showerhead with a faucet. Because of this, some things did get wet. There’s one small, older store, but it was always very crowded, and the staff couldn’t keep up with restocking. The bakery was down by the beach, and they had decent pistolets and baguettes there. Once, I bought a head of lettuce at the fresh market, which cost me 3.7€. We walked down to the bay twice in the evening—once to watch the movie *Zootopia 2* and the other time for the light and LED show. The movie was fun, but the LED show was really very disappointing. It was just one woman in an LED jacket putting on a 9-minute show. Everything at the bar, snack bar, and restaurant must be paid for by card, and everywhere they ask via the payment terminal if you’d like to leave a tip. For us, this large campground wasn’t our thing, and we won’t be booking it again.

1 zwembad is 3,4 m diep langs 1 kant.

I thought our spot was good overall, but we were right next to a main road and the supermarket.
The only downside was that in the evenings, the teenagers were really loud—they were still causing a ruckus until 2 a.m., and we couldn't sleep. The teenagers were yelling and throwing firecrackers.this is a translation, click here for the original

Too big camping (6000 people!), too crowded, too noisy, without enough trees and shade. Pretty hot during sunny days.
The beach and seaside is nice and calm, and the showers and toilets are clean. -

Na začiatok – sme štvorčlenná rodina, dvaja dospelí a dve deti do 10 rokov.
Kemp Valkanela je naozaj obrovský. Objednali sme si parcelu Superior, no dostali sme miesto úplne na konci kempu. K bazénom sme to mali približne 15 minút pešo, čo bolo s malými deťmi dosť nepraktické.
