We spent several days at Camping Vauban – Onlycamp in Neuf-Brisach and, overall, had a very pleasant stay.

For a 2-star campground, it’s clean, quiet, and straightforward. The staff at the front desk was very friendly, though they only speak French and English—which surprised us a bit, since the campground is very close to the German border.

The restroom facilities were always clean. There are three restroom buildings. German campers might need to get used to this: Not every restroom stall has a toilet seat. 😉 There’s also a washing machine and a dryer available.

We especially appreciated the peace and quiet on the campground. We were able to sleep in until after 10 a.m. without any problems. However, it was very loud one night—clearly due to a family of campers whose children and even parents were shouting loudly well into the night. They had only arrived that evening and were already gone the next morning. For us, therefore, this was more of an isolated incident than a problem with the campground itself.

There’s plenty for families: a playground, a skate park, a basketball court, table tennis, and bocce. There’s also a bread roll delivery service (closed on Mondays).

The location is also very convenient: a supermarket and a home improvement store are about 500 meters away, and Neuf-Brisach is easy to explore on foot. The campground is a great starting point for discovering Alsace and the German side of the border.

If you don’t want to bring a tent or RV, you can also rent treehouses or bungalows.

There are a few minor downsides: The pool isn’t heated, and at about 12 meters long, it’s not really suitable for lap swimming. Not all campsites are shaded, and the paths on the campground aren’t lit at night. There’s no Wi-Fi, though this is clearly stated on the website.

We also noticed that many guests stay only one night or a few days, which results in a fair amount of coming and going.

Our conclusion: A beautiful, quiet, and clean campground in a good location, especially as a starting point for trips in France and Germany. For a 2-star campground, we were very satisfied overall and would come back. 🇫🇷🇩🇪🏕️

We booked a night’s stay on Booking.com, and based on the pictures there, I was expecting a small cabin with a made-up double bed and an electrical outlet.
Instead, it was a structure on stilts—which actually has a certain charm—but at first I mistook it for a piece of playground equipment. It’s very cramped—well, it wasn’t expensive, but the place should definitely provide bedding, even if it’s for an extra charge. I’m not exactly fussy, but I don’t know how many people have been caught off guard by the bedding issue before and ended up sleeping without blankets. So: ask if it’s available and, if so, offer it for an extra charge.
And the second issue is electricity. As an e-bike rider, electricity is simply essential, and you also have to charge your cell phone—and you don’t necessarily want to sit in that bike room for hours just to do that. So it would be very important to have two outlets down below for the bikes and a power strip up top.
Otherwise: the place is nice, and it has a small pool.
