Discover the caves of Dordogne

The Dordogne is known for its impressive caves, which present a fascinating contrast to the warm, sunny 'above world'. For children, it’s a special experience to descend from the bright daylight into the cool, dark depths. The region offers all kinds of caves: from beautiful stalactite caves with stunning limestone formations to caves with prehistoric drawings. The Gouffre de Proumeyssac, close to the campsite, is famous for its spectacular light show. Le Grand Roc, perched high with views over the Vézère valley, is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. A bit further away is the Gouffre de Padirac, where you can travel by boat through the cave. Lascaux IV features a replica of the world-famous prehistoric art, as the original cave is closed to protect the drawings.

Visit the numerous picturesque villages and towns in the area

This region offers an enchanting mix of picturesque villages and historic towns that you should not miss. Belvès, with its medieval charm, and Domme, overlooking the Dordogne, are ideal places to wander through narrow streets. La Roque-Gageac is picturesquely situated on the river and offers impressive views. Les Eyzies is known as the prehistoric capital with impressive caves. Limeuil, at the confluence of two rivers, exudes tranquility. Monpazier is a perfectly preserved bastide, while Sarlat is known for its stunning Renaissance architecture. Périgueux, the regional capital, offers a rich history and atmospheric squares. These places make a stay here unforgettable.

Markets and Food Markets

Food markets in the Dordogne are a delight for lovers of good food and drink. Just 3 km from the campsite, a French food evening is organized every Saturday in July and August in Audrix. Here you choose your meal and join long tables alongside locals and tourists, while a band provides lively music. In Le Bugue, Le Coux, Saint-Cyprien, Belvès, and Limeuil as well, food markets are held on various days, where Périgord gastronomy takes center stage.

The region also has plenty of charming markets offering fresh local produce and regional specialties. Large markets can be found in Sarlat (Wednesday and Saturday), Le Bugue (Tuesday), and Monpazier (Thursday), among others. A visit to these markets is a perfect way to experience the local atmosphere and discover delicious products.

We went to this campground two years in a row and we never really do. What a nice campground! Small but not too small. And the second year it was top again! We stayed in MobileHome 27 and this is, for us, also the best/most cozy accommodation. The children (8, 5 and 2) had a great time and the older two found their own way around. The table d'hotes was also a success. No need to cook, just sit down at the table. Kids played in the playground afterwards and we had some time together. The location is central, it is a nice base to visit places in the Dordogne. Everything from the campsite has to be done by car, but that was no problem for us. In short, highly recommended!
