Kayaking on the river Dronne
A boat trip on the Dronne River offers a great experience in the beautiful Aubeterre-sur-Dronne area. Disappointing despite the beautiful setting
A stay at Camping Paradis in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne—and, unfortunately, several major disappointments.
First thing: watch out for the rates! When we wanted to extend our stay by 3 days, I was quoted €140 over the phone. Upon arrival, my parents were ultimately charged €190—€50 more. No one … had told us this, so we had to negotiate to get the price we’d originally been quoted. And on another night, two beers (50 cl Heineken + 50 cl Desperados) were billed at €18, with yet another €4 error that we had to get corrected. Needless to say, those were my first and last beers there! Sometimes it feels like you have to check every bill!
As for the food, it’s really not their strong suit: on mussels-and-fries night, there were lots of closed mussels and we even found plastic in the dish. And be careful—you obviously shouldn’t say anything, because here any comment seems to be taken the wrong way; it cost us a huge argument one night!! Because the staff has forgotten that the customer is king; I get the impression they’re there for themselves rather than for the customers!!!
Since the snack bar is open to the general public, it gets packed quickly in the evenings!!!!
The entertainment is also quite disappointing. Piki arrives in a golf cart in a very small area where children are running around: we found this dangerous, but apparently it’s not a problem at all!!
The entertainment is also open to the general public, just like the beach and the snack bar: so what you see in the photos isn’t exclusively reserved for campers!
Another thing that really surprised us: the large kitchen knives for watermelons and cantaloupes (seasonal fruits, you know...) have been removed from the accommodations, with the explanation being a fear that “things might get out of hand” and that there would be regular altercations—though, to be honest, that doesn’t really surprise me… even if it’s not exactly reassuring for a family vacation…
We also spotted some little mice under the awnings of the canvas accommodations! Nice, huh???
As for these accommodations, however, they’re pretty spacious and decent overall. It’s a shame the two small outdoor tables aren’t replaced by one big family table.
Finally, we noticed there was a lot of turnover: many people only stay a few days. As for us, I ended up leaving earlier than planned with my daughter, leaving my parents behind, because we quickly got the feeling that we were going to get bored, and the overall atmosphere doesn’t exactly make you want to stay!!!
The campground clearly lacks consistency when it comes to pricing, food service, organization, and activities.

Bonne chance ! -

The mojito at the bar was really bad. I've never had anything so awful. 🤮
Even the river water is drinkable compared to that.this is a translation, click here for the original

We had a wonderful weekend with friends. Great campground—the casual beachside atmosphere right on the beach was really nice. The swimming is fantastic. The campground staff is really welcoming and cheerful. As a bonus, there was a nice little amateur concert...
