Excellent friendly campsite in the quieter end of the Ile de Re. Very close to the sea - note the beach is sandy at the top but rocky lower down at low tide. The site is sandy with some small trees/shrubs to provide a bit of shelter from the sea breeze but limited shade. We enjoyed the sounds of the sea on what was a very peaceful site. Pitches are well separated and ours had electricity and a picnic table. Toilet, shower and washing up facilities are good and very clean. A small bar at the back of reception sells good beer/wine at usual, ie expensive, Ile de Re prices. Pizzas were excellent but our order had been lost so wasn't made until we chased it up, staff apologised and gave us free drinks in compensation. Ars-en-Re is a reasonable walk, but only 10 minutes on bikes. Great location for exploring the top end of the island including the Phare des Baleines, Portes-en-Re and Loix.

An affordable campground in a great location on Île de Ré. It’s extremely secluded and very quiet—not a sound to be heard. For those looking for peace and quiet, it’s perfect.

We arrived very early, but they still let us in. The lady at the front desk was friendly and explained everything clearly. She suggested a few different sites and told us to walk over and check them out. So off we went in the sweltering heat to find a spot with a little shade.

It might have been nice if they offered bike rentals or some other form of transportation, because in this heat, it was really tough.

It’s also worth noting that there are very few shaded areas.
The campsites have a lot of sand, so be careful not to get stuck.

The restrooms are clean, but there are a lot of bugs (good luck to those with arachnophobia!).

There’s a beach 50 meters away if you’re near the campground entrance. Otherwise, you’ll have to walk all the way across the campground. A quick tip: bring your bikes—there’s a bike rack right next to the beach. Bike rentals are available on-site, but I find them extremely expensive: €33 a day for an electric bike. In the end, that’s almost more expensive than the price of a campsite with electricity.

In short, I don’t particularly recommend this campground, except for those who are primarily looking for peace and quiet and a stay surrounded by nature. For a simple overnight stopover, it’s perfectly acceptable.
