Surroundings

Water fun and beach days
Just a few minutes from the campsite lies the vast Lake Aureilhan, an oasis of tranquility surrounded by pine forests. Here you can go pedal boating, paddle boarding, fishing, or just float in the sun. Around the lake runs a flowery walking route, ideal for a relaxing stroll with views of the sparkling water. In the mood for the sea? In less than half an hour by bike you’ll reach the wide sandy beaches of Mimizan-Plage, where you can surf, swim, or simply unwind in the beach chairs.

Cycling through the pine forests
The Les Landes region is known for its endless cycle paths that run through the forests and along the coast. From the campsite, you can easily cycle through the shady pine forests towards Mimizan or the charming village of Lit-et-Mixe. Along the way, you'll pass dunes, small lakes, and maybe even spot a few wild deer. The 'Circuit du lac et de la forêt' route lets you discover both the nature and the history of the area, with stops at old washhouses, church towers, and the Woolsack castle.
Authentic villages and local markets
Around Lake Aureilhan, you'll find picturesque villages such as Aureilhan itself, Saint-Paul-en-Born, and Sainte-Eulalie-en-Born. Here you can experience the true atmosphere of Les Landes: narrow streets, charming squares, and lively markets with local products. Just ten kilometers away lies Mimizan, also known as the “Pearl of the Côte d’Argent”. Stroll along the boulevard of Mimizan-Plage, visit the local market, or enjoy foie gras, duck breast, and a glass of Gascogne wine on a sunny terrace — the flavors of the region.
Walking along flowers and pilgrimage routes
Hiking enthusiasts can indulge themselves around Huttopia Lac d’Aureilhan. The Promenade Fleurie is a colorful eight-kilometer walking route that runs along the flower-lined shores of the lake. For a bit more adventure, you can walk a section of the historic coastal route of the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. From Mimizan, you follow the old path through dunes and forests to Lespecier beach, where you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The park is situated by a beautiful lake and offers a lovely swimming pool that guests with children appreciate greatly. Staff are described by many as friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for cycling and walking trips. However, many guests point out camping pitches that are too small and lack privacy, sanitary facilities that are insufficiently maintained and cleaned, and pricing that does not match the provided amenities.

Very disappointing—absolutely not worth the price
Very disappointing stay, especially given the rates charged.
Appalling welcome and service: No assistance or explanation upon arrival. They simply handed us the keys. Nothing was explained to us regarding how the campground operates or the activities schedule. The staff is sorely lacking in friendliness, especially toward French guests. We were asked to fill out an inventory of missing items, but nothing was done about it afterward.
Unmanaged water park with questionable hygiene: Staff and guests swim there in swim shorts, boxers, or underwear. Guests eat and drink right by the pool, and allowing inflatable toys turns the pool into a real free-for-all. Furthermore, there are far too few lounge chairs, and some are in poor condition.
Limited entertainment and absurd schedules: Most of the activities are for children and sometimes require an additional fee. Evening entertainment runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the latest… it’s hard to participate without eating there, except that the tables are dirty, there’s no drink menu, the wait to be served is too long, and the ice cream flavors are bizarre.
The clientele consists mainly of foreigners (particularly Dutch, German, and British). Many are very loud, show little respect for the neighbors, and smoke illegal substances.
The overall atmosphere is remarkably lacking in energy for a place in this price range.
In short, if you want to spend a vacation abroad without leaving France—and be disappointed—you’ve come to the right place. The services are absolutely not worth the price paid. I do not recommend it.this is a translation, click here for the original

We visited this Huttopia campground during our vacation—the setting is absolutely lovely!
The Portland chalets are very well located and spacious, in a quiet area.
The pool is very large, but the campground is also right on the lake, where the sunsets are magnificent.
We’ll be back as soon as possible—thanks to the staff on-site for their warm welcome ☀️this is a translation, click here for the original

Overall, a good campground.
Nothing to say about the cleaning service, except that campers are getting messier and messier—they don’t clean up after themselves in the showers.
There’s a lake and trails near the campground.
A very nice pool for family fun.
There’s not enough shade at the campground; the trees are stunted.this is a translation, click here for the original

I know this place very well and have many fond memories of the time I spent there. This year, I booked a campsite for our RV for July 28 for our return trip from Portugal. Then the wildfires broke out in the region. A wildfire was raging in Biscarosse, about 20 km as the crow flies from Mimizan/Aureilhan. The access roads were closed. I tried several times to contact Camping Huttopia Lac d’Aureilhan by email and phone. No one answered the phone, and my email wasn’t replied to until August 1. Huttopia responded that they wouldn’t issue a refund, even though I couldn’t reach the campground because the access roads were blocked. Legally speaking, the key point is that the campground wasn’t closed by the authorities. That’s not what good customer service looks like. A voucher for my next vacation wouldn’t be a problem for a provider like Huttopia. But I guess that’s not going to happen :-(

Camping spot booked at the last minute due to the wildfires in Gironde.
Pleasantly surprised by the amenities; the campground doesn’t deserve its rather “low” average rating.
It’s far from the beach, but we knew that (too bad for surfers). It’s close to the lake, but we knew that (great for fishermen and paddleboarders).
I would have given it 5 stars BUT: a half-pint of beer at the bar for €4.50 is just ridiculous. We’re coming back from the beach—it was hot and sunny—so we’re going to grab a refreshing beer at the bar for €2.50, €3 max. Not €4.50—that’s outrageous. It’s practically outrageous. So we didn’t spend a single euro at the resort bar.
If it weren’t for that, I would have given it 5*****this is a translation, click here for the original
