Surroundings

Water fun and beach days
Just a few minutes from the campsite lies the vast Lake Aureilhan, an oasis of tranquility surrounded by pine forests. Here you can go pedal boating, paddle boarding, fishing, or just float in the sun. Around the lake runs a flowery walking route, ideal for a relaxing stroll with views of the sparkling water. In the mood for the sea? In less than half an hour by bike you’ll reach the wide sandy beaches of Mimizan-Plage, where you can surf, swim, or simply unwind in the beach chairs.

Cycling through the pine forests
The Les Landes region is known for its endless cycle paths that run through the forests and along the coast. From the campsite, you can easily cycle through the shady pine forests towards Mimizan or the charming village of Lit-et-Mixe. Along the way, you'll pass dunes, small lakes, and maybe even spot a few wild deer. The 'Circuit du lac et de la forêt' route lets you discover both the nature and the history of the area, with stops at old washhouses, church towers, and the Woolsack castle.
Authentic villages and local markets
Around Lake Aureilhan, you'll find picturesque villages such as Aureilhan itself, Saint-Paul-en-Born, and Sainte-Eulalie-en-Born. Here you can experience the true atmosphere of Les Landes: narrow streets, charming squares, and lively markets with local products. Just ten kilometers away lies Mimizan, also known as the “Pearl of the Côte d’Argent”. Stroll along the boulevard of Mimizan-Plage, visit the local market, or enjoy foie gras, duck breast, and a glass of Gascogne wine on a sunny terrace — the flavors of the region.
Walking along flowers and pilgrimage routes
Hiking enthusiasts can indulge themselves around Huttopia Lac d’Aureilhan. The Promenade Fleurie is a colorful eight-kilometer walking route that runs along the flower-lined shores of the lake. For a bit more adventure, you can walk a section of the historic coastal route of the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. From Mimizan, you follow the old path through dunes and forests to Lespecier beach, where you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean.

There is nothing here except nature. But if you like cycling or hiking, you're in good hands here. When I arrived, the site was completely empty. I was able to choose my pitch and took one from which I could look out over the lake while enjoying my breakfast coffee. The site was clean and tidy, the pitches very large. The showers and toilets were in very good condition, with glasses and toilet paper. They were spotlessly clean. Toilets and showers are always dirty when people leave them dirty. This is not down to the management. My appeal to all parents: take a look at the toilet when your children have left it. This applies to every campsite. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate during my visit, so I left a day early. The campsite can't be held responsible for the weather. The staff were all very friendly. There is a small store at reception where you can buy a few regional products (wine) and things like toothpaste, kitchen roll and cleaning products. This is really for emergencies, as the store is not cheap. I also found the rental fee for the bikes too high for out of season. They cost the same everywhere at Huttopia, and the chain should rethink its business model. If the bikes are all left unused at reception, there's no point. Otherwise, I felt very comfortable and safe on the site, was able to relax a little and enjoyed the fresh forest air.

We've just spent the weekend at the Huttopia campsite in Mimizan and we loved our stay! The chalets are brand new, all wood, spacious and very well appointed. The bedding is excellent, with large, comfortable beds - you really sleep well. The swimming pool is superb, large and perfectly suited to children. The café is very pleasant and ideally located right next to a playground, which is very practical when you come with your family. We also really appreciated the many games available: badminton, table tennis, balls, molky... There's plenty to keep young and old entertained. A huge thank you above all to the team, who are adorable and attentive. They offered us a barbecue and allowed us to move the tables so that we could all eat together at 13. We were even able to leave a little later to let the babies finish their nap - a gesture truly appreciated. A great experience at this Huttopia, and we'll be back with pleasure!

Please note: campsite undergoing renovation, change of owner and therefore previous reviews (prior to 01/2025) are no longer current. Quiet campsite, very well located and spacious. Beautiful scenery and view of the lake, very good aquatic area (the pool lino will be renovated for the 2026 season). Chalet new and very clean, even if it lacks a little privacy at the moment, but the hedges are still new. Very pleasant and accommodating staff, a very warm welcome!
