We had a great time as a family at the campground during the off-season. The staff was always friendly, courteous, and helpful. The location was also ideal for us as a family. We could take a relaxing swim in the lake, which was within walking distance, or bike to the Atlantic Ocean in just 20 minutes. If you plan your shopping well, you can easily leave the car parked for a few days.

With three families and kids ranging from 0 to 7 years old, Huttopia Lac de Carcans was just the right choice for us in September: a relaxed breakfast under the pine trees in the morning, trips to the area’s great beaches during the day, and cozy evenings spent together.

The decor is minimalist but very well thought out—you really don’t … need much to be happy, and you don’t miss a thing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Personally, the music from the neighboring campground didn’t bother us at all; the atmosphere was generally wonderfully relaxed during the off-season.

Great family vacation—highly recommended!
We stayed at Huttopia Lac Carcans as a group of three families with children ages 0 to 7 and had an absolutely fantastic time. We’d come back anytime and can wholeheartedly recommend this campground!
Accommodations & Facilities
We stayed in the “Arizona” tents. The amenities were more than … sufficient for us—we really had everything we needed. A huge plus for young and old alike: right outside our door was the finest sand, which the kids played in enthusiastically all day long.
Highlights for Kids & Parents
* Lakefront location: Direct access to the swimming lake is unbeatable, especially with young children.
* Playground & bar: The playground is wonderfully designed and located right next to the bar—perfect for parents to relax while the kids run around.
* Bike Rental: Absolutely top-notch selection with bikes of all kinds.
Surroundings & Excursions
The absolute highlight is, of course, the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean: It’s about a 10-minute drive, a 20-minute bike ride, or about an hour’s walk. The region is also perfect for a day trip—a trip to Bordeaux is definitely worth it!

What a beautiful and unique place. Unbelievable! Anyone who loves camping in nature will truly find what they’re looking for here. The trees, the peace and quiet, the crickets, the lake within walking distance, and the ocean within biking distance. We look back on this wonderful campground—and especially its location—with very fond memories. The … central plaza and the playground there are also fun and full of charm. We also appreciated the mix of different nationalities: Germans, Spaniards, Dutch, Belgians, French…

The restrooms, however, are very basic. We’re used to Huttopia campgrounds, but here they were more outdated and often dirty. The lines for pizza and sandwiches in the morning are ridiculous—a major annoyance. We sometimes had to wait in line for as long as 25 minutes just for a drink in the evening. Our record wait for sandwiches in the morning was 40 minutes. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives in the area.

And good to know: the campground is large and, as a result, a bit confusing. We found that a bit challenging with our 3- and 5-year-olds, who are used to riding their bikes around the campground.
