Discover the impressive Gorges du Tarn

Discover the impressive Gorges du Tarn from the campsite, one of the most spectacular natural areas in France. Here the Tarn River cuts deep through the landscape and forms a canyon with steep limestone cliffs and clear water. Head out and experience for yourself how diverse this area is, whether you walk along the banks, go out on the water, or stop in one of the characteristic villages along the river. In the sky, you have a chance to see the imposing griffon vulture soaring above the cliffs, reintroduced in the 1990s and now one of the most distinctive birds of this area. Come and discover for yourself the combination of rugged and impressive nature of the Gorges du Tarn.

Discover the Cévennes straight from the campsite

From the campsite, the adventure begins almost immediately in Cévennes National Park, a vast natural area full of variety and tranquillity. You walk through chestnut forests, past dry-stone walls and over bare rocky ridges where vultures circle high above the landscape. The GR70 Route Stevenson runs right through the heart of the park and lets you experience how large and varied this area is. Anyone who wants to explore further can follow marked day routes towards the Causses or the slopes of Mont Lozère. Along the way, you pass abandoned farming hamlets and natural springs where you can refill your bottle, while the peaceful, unspoiled landscape and fresh mountain air clearly show what makes the Cévennes so special.

Visit the local market of Florac

On Wednesday morning, the center of Florac comes to life with stalls full of local cheese, honey, sausage and vegetables from farmers in Lozère. The market is compact and easy to navigate, but offers enough to return home with full bags. After that, you can settle down on one of the terraces on Place du Tour for a coffee, while village life drifts slowly past you.

Discover the view from Mont Aigoual

On Mont Aigoual, in the heart of Cévennes National Park, stands one of France’s last manned weather stations at an altitude of 1567 meters. The road there winds past beech forests and open plateaus. At the top, you can visit the small meteorological museum and learn more about the station. In clear weather, the view stretches from the Pyrenees to the Alps and offers an impressive panorama of the surroundings.

A lovely campground for our three sons, ages 3, 5, and 8. The kids made friends quickly and had a great time running around the campground. That made it very relaxing for Mom and Dad, too.
Beautiful surroundings and located right on a river with a gently sloping pebble beach. This makes it ideal for small children. Two years ago, we came here for the first time with a toddler and a three-year-old. They could safely throw pebbles in the shallow water, while their big brother jumped off the rock into the deep water a little further away.
Our kids really wanted to come back this year, and it was a success once again.

At our request, we stayed near the little playground along the road. We didn’t experience any noise from the road in our RV, but if you’re camping in a tent, I’d recommend a spot closer to the river. Those are also the most scenic spots, purely from a visual standpoint.
Our oldest sons received their first pocket knives in Florac this year and two years ago, so, as is tradition, we’ll have to come back here for our youngest son’s first pocket knife. A visit to Coutellier Hervé Manoury is a real treat for tough guys (young and old ;-)

If we ever come back, I’d definitely try to secure a spot at Grand Conford. Those spots are gorgeous.

The nearby climbing forest with ziplines over the Tarnon was also a hit, as was the authentic French market on Thursday morning in Florac.

Friendly people at the campground, and phenomenal croissants in the morning!

My experience covers 8 days at this campground. The campground’s location is wonderful, just 1 kilometer from the town of Florac, a beautiful town that’s within walking distance.
It’s worth noting that there’s a large store nearby, but you’ll need a car to get there.
As for areas for improvement, it would be very helpful to have a small store right on the campground grounds. Also, the restaurant doesn’t serve lunch, only dinner, which would be ideal during peak season.
There aren’t enough restrooms, and the toilets don’t have a second seat (except for those in the restrooms at the entrance for people with limited mobility), which is inconvenient.
The road adjacent to the campground makes it difficult to get a good night’s sleep after certain hours (we recommend booking a spot away from the road)
The campground offers plenty of shade and has direct access to the river, with a picturesque landscape where you’re guaranteed to unwind.
The stars look amazing from the campground, and since it’s in a natural park, there’s hardly any light pollution—it’s a spectacular sight.
The central area of the campground is designated as a playground, but it isn’t used much (at least not when we were there); in my opinion, another restroom building could be added for the sites farther from the entrance.
The staff is lovely, and the experience is truly remarkable.
    We highly recommend a visit

We had a wonderful stay at this campground.

We asked to switch to a different site because our original one was a bit too small for our 10-person tent, and we were pleasantly surprised when the staff went out of their way to find us a larger, well-shaded spot.

A top-notch staff and fun activities organized by Thomas, with whom we had a great time.
