The Abbey of Maillezais

About a 40-minute drive from the campground is the Abbey of Maillezais. You can visit remains of the church and monastery from the 10th century, or visit the museum. Near the abbey is the beautiful nature reserve Marais Poitevin, also known as the "Green Venice" because of its many canals. A visit to Maillezais Abbey can therefore be well combined with a boat trip or walk through this unique marshland.

Explore the area on foot or by bicycle!

There are no less than 228 hiking trails throughout the Vendée and the region has one of the largest bicycle networks in France, with a total of 1,800 kilometers of bike paths. Time to hit the road, then. For example, visit the Original Velo Tours in Fontenay le Comte. Here you can take a guided gastronomic bike tour of the area.

Puy du Fou amusement park (44 km).

Instead of traditional roller coasters and merry-go-rounds, this amusement park offers shows and spectacles based on historical events and legends. Visit the show 'Le Bal des Oiseaux Fantômes,' where falcons and other birds of prey fly around freely and put on an impressive show. At "Les Vikings," a ship carrying a bunch of Vikings is attacked by another ship carrying looters. There are also night shows and shows based on the life of Joan of Arc and the Musketeers. In addition to the shows, there are historic villages to explore, including a medieval village and a village from Roman times. A visit to Puy de Fou is definitely a unique and unforgettable experience.

Visit Vouvant

This beautiful medieval village is within biking distance of the campground. Considered one of the most beautiful villages in France, it is situated on the banks of the Vendée River. It has impressive fortifications from the 11th century, with towers and gates still intact. At the center of the village is the Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre, which dates back to the 12th century. The old bridge over the Vendée River is also worth a visit, with fantastic views of the surrounding area. If you like art, you've come to the right place; there are several art galleries and studios. Vouvant is also known for its annual medieval festival, when the entire village is transformed into a medieval scene with markets, music, dancing and costumes.
