Excursion to historic cities

Explore Tuscany's historic cities from glamping La Chiocciola. Siena, famous for its horse races, is just over half an hour away. Arezzo is about the same distance away and has a beautiful center bursting with piazzas, restaurants, and narrow streets. Florence is the largest city in the area and can be reached after an hour's drive. Dive into the museums, enjoy an ice cream near the cathedral, and cross the river via the Ponte Vecchio. Drive south? Then after 50 minutes, you will arrive in Montepulciano. A small town situated on a hill, where you can drink the tastiest wines and enjoy an impressive view of the hilly landscape.

Beautiful view of lush green vineyards, rolling hills and a holiday park offering glamping accommodations.

Taste the wines of the Chianti region

Camping La Chiocciola is a glamping site with luxury safari tents set among rolling hills and vineyards. When staying in the Chianti region, it is, therefore, worth visiting a vineyard and doing a wine tasting. Head towards Enoteca Falorni, Marchesi Mazzei Cellar or Tenuta Casanova about an hour away. They are also happy to inform you at the reception about vineyards in the area.

A day trip to Lake Trasimeno

Take the car and take a trip to Lake Trasimeno, which is about a 45-minute drive from the glamping site. Lake Trasimeno is the largest lake in central and southern Italy and offers plenty of activities to fill a day. Find a spot on one of the beaches, visit the quaint waterfront towns, or take a boat trip to one of the islands in the lake.

Hiking through Pratomagno

About an hour's drive from the glamping is the mountain area of Pratomagno. This hilly area is the ideal place for peaceful walks through Italian nature. Enjoy the tranquility, great views, and fresh air. One, almost literal, the highlight is Croce del Pratomagno. This large metal cross stands on a mountain peak 1594 meters high. Walk across meadows, along streams, and spot cows in the summer. One of the trails toward this extraordinary cross starts from Monte Lori, a 45-minute drive from the glamping site. Follow the Cai 00 trail and, after a route of about 10 kilometers, reach this summit. Bring plenty of water, some snacks and enjoy an active day in the beautiful Tuscan countryside.

Summary created out of 169 reviews

The campsite is centrally located in Tuscany and is appreciated for its friendly, helpful staff who often speak Dutch or English. Guests praise the spacious pitches with plenty of shade and privacy, each with its own washbasin. The sanitary facilities are clean and equipped with free hot water. The adjacent municipal swimming pool with three pools offers sufficient sunbeds, although it can get busy on weekends with local visitors and the state of maintenance could be better. The campsite is an excellent base for exploring Tuscan cities and villages.

Campeggio molto grande pero' con pochi ospiti, gestori molto cordiali, sanitari in perfetto stadio, piscine belle, verremo un'altra volta per visitare quei posti bellissimi d'intorno.

I came here with some trepidation (after reading some of the reviews).
But we were very pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome. We were able to choose our own site; they are large, marked-off sites measuring 90 vkm (very large by Italian standards). Each site has its own sink with running water👍.
The restroom building is a bit dated but is well-maintained and clean; down in the lower part of the campground, there’s a newer restroom block.
The campground’s location is great for exploring beautiful Tuscany. It’s not suitable for people looking for entertainment at a campground, but it’s perfect for those seeking peace and relaxation.
This year, the campground’s restaurant was open—delicious pizzas.
Don’t let some of the reviews put you off—it’s a lovely campground. For us, it was fantastic 👍👍👍, and we’ll definitely be back.

The pizza is good, and the service is fast. The owners are friendly. I recommend going there for both lunch and dinner, but lunch is better as a break from the pool next door if you want to take a break.

Buona la pizza, servizio veloce. I proprietari sono gentili. Vi consiglio di andare sia a pranzo che alla sera ma a pranzo è meglio come intermezzo con la piscina che è accanto se si vuole fare pausa.
