A fair warning for families with young children
We’re writing this review because we hope other families will get as realistic a picture as possible of this campground before they go. In hindsight, we wish we’d had this information ourselves before we booked.
We came to Fuussekaul with high expectations precisely because of the … beautiful photos on social media and the positive reviews. Unfortunately, the reality turned out to be quite different for us.
There’s definitely plenty for children to do. There are many playgrounds and activities. For us, the main issue lies with the location, the crowds, and the layout of the campground. We had hoped that our children, who like to explore on their own, would be able to ride their bikes and play on the campground. That turned out to be far from ideal for us.
The campground is incredibly crowded, and everything is crammed together. There are caravans, tents, and cars everywhere. In addition, there’s a lot of traffic on the grounds all day long—not just guests’ cars, but also frequent shovels, tractors, and vans. According to the owners, these are vehicles used for the campground’s regular maintenance. For us, this meant we couldn’t let our children ride their bikes or play on their own with peace of mind.
Additionally, the campground is divided by a 70 km/h road. There is a tunnel to safely reach the other section, but a large portion of the children’s facilities is located on the other side of this road. We believe this should be stated more clearly on the website. For a family with young children, we consider this to be relevant information when choosing a campground.
So there’s certainly plenty of entertainment for children, but in our opinion, much less attention is paid to the peace and comfort of parents. We found few cozy spots where parents can sit quietly while the children play safely. It’s also difficult near the restaurant. Because of the crowds and the heavy foot traffic, we actually felt like we had to be on high alert all the time.
We also found the pool to be very small relative to the number of guests.
What surprised us most is that we hardly see these issues mentioned in the many positive reviews. Of course, every experience is personal, and many families will have a fantastic vacation here. We certainly don’t mean to say that this campground isn’t suitable for anyone. But for families looking for a quiet, well-organized campground where children can walk around and ride bikes more independently, we think it’s important to mention this aspect as well.

Een eerlijke waarschuwing voor gezinnen met jonge kinderen
Wij schrijven deze recensie omdat wij hopen dat andere gezinnen vooraf een zo realistisch mogelijk beeld van deze camping krijgen. Achteraf hadden wij deze informatie zelf graag gehad voordat we boekten.
Wij kwamen juist vanwege de mooie beelden op social media en de positieve recensies met hoge verwachtingen naar Fuussekaul. Helaas bleek de werkelijkheid voor ons behoorlijk anders.
Voor kinderen is er absoluut veel te doen. Er zijn veel speeltuinen en activiteiten. Het probleem zit voor ons vooral in de ligging, drukte en opzet van de camping. Wij hadden gehoopt dat onze kinderen, die graag wat zelfstandiger op pad gaan, op de camping konden fietsen en spelen. Dat bleek hier voor ons absoluut niet ideaal.
De camping is ontzettend vol en alles staat dicht op elkaar. Overal staan caravans, tenten en auto’s. Daarnaast is er de hele dag veel verkeer op het terrein. Niet alleen auto’s van gasten, maar ook regelmatig shovels, trekkers en busjes. Volgens de eigenaren gaat het hierbij om voertuigen voor het reguliere onderhoud van de camping. Voor ons zorgde dit ervoor dat we onze kinderen niet met een gerust gevoel zelfstandig konden laten fietsen of spelen.
Daarnaast wordt het campingterrein gescheiden door een 70 km/u-weg. Er is een tunnel om veilig naar het andere gedeelte te gaan, maar een groot deel van de kinderfaciliteiten bevindt zich aan de andere kant van deze weg. Wij vinden dat dit duidelijker op de website vermeld zou mogen worden. Voor een gezin met jonge kinderen vinden wij dit namelijk relevante informatie bij het kiezen van een camping.
Er is dus zeker genoeg vermaak voor kinderen, maar naar onze mening is er veel minder aandacht voor de rust en het comfort van ouders. Wij vonden weinig gezellige plekken waar je als ouder rustig kunt zitten terwijl de kinderen veilig kunnen spelen. Ook bij het restaurant is dat lastig. Door de drukte en het vele verkeer hadden wij eigenlijk voortdurend het gevoel alert te moeten zijn.
Het zwembad vonden wij daarnaast erg klein in verhouding tot de hoeveelheid gasten.
Wat ons vooral heeft verbaasd, is dat wij deze punten nauwelijks terugzien in de vele positieve recensies. Natuurlijk is iedere ervaring persoonlijk en zullen veel gezinnen hier een fantastische vakantie hebben. Wij willen dan ook zeker niet zeggen dat deze camping voor niemand geschikt is. Maar voor gezinnen die op zoek zijn naar een rustige, overzichtelijke camping waar kinderen wat zelfstandiger kunnen rondlopen en fietsen, vinden wij het belangrijk om deze kant ook te benoemen.
Wij plaatsen deze recensie daarom niet om de camping af te kraken, maar omdat wij zelf achteraf dachten: had iemand ons dit maar verteld voordat we boekten. Dan hadden wij waarschijnlijk een andere keuze gemaakt.
