A fair warning for families with young children

We’re writing this review because we hope other families will get as realistic a picture as possible of this campground before they go. In hindsight, we wish we’d had this information ourselves before we booked.

We came to Fuussekaul with high expectations precisely because of the … beautiful photos on social media and the positive reviews. Unfortunately, the reality turned out to be quite different for us.

There’s definitely plenty for children to do. There are many playgrounds and activities. For us, the main issue lies with the location, the crowds, and the layout of the campground. We had hoped that our children, who like to explore on their own, would be able to ride their bikes and play on the campground. That turned out to be far from ideal for us.

The campground is incredibly crowded, and everything is crammed together. There are caravans, tents, and cars everywhere. In addition, there’s a lot of traffic on the grounds all day long—not just guests’ cars, but also frequent shovels, tractors, and vans. According to the owners, these are vehicles used for the campground’s regular maintenance. For us, this meant we couldn’t let our children ride their bikes or play on their own with peace of mind.

Additionally, the campground is divided by a 70 km/h road. There is a tunnel to safely reach the other section, but a large portion of the children’s facilities is located on the other side of this road. We believe this should be stated more clearly on the website. For a family with young children, we consider this to be relevant information when choosing a campground.

So there’s certainly plenty of entertainment for children, but in our opinion, much less attention is paid to the peace and comfort of parents. We found few cozy spots where parents can sit quietly while the children play safely. It’s also difficult near the restaurant. Because of the crowds and the heavy foot traffic, we actually felt like we had to be on high alert all the time.

We also found the pool to be very small relative to the number of guests.

What surprised us most is that we hardly see these issues mentioned in the many positive reviews. Of course, every experience is personal, and many families will have a fantastic vacation here. We certainly don’t mean to say that this campground isn’t suitable for anyone. But for families looking for a quiet, well-organized campground where children can walk around and ride bikes more independently, we think it’s important to mention this aspect as well.

We’re not posting this review to bash the campground, but because we thought to ourselves afterward: if only someone had told us this before we booked. We probably would have made a different choice. Read more Show less
