Walk among the treetops

Just 2 kilometres from Lunsbergen Forest Park lies the Treetop Path, one of Drenthe's best-known attractions. Walk along the 125-metre path among the treetops and enjoy a unique view over the forest. Below, you will find walking routes, forest play areas and fun nature activities for children. A perfect outing for the whole family, surrounded by the nature of the Drenthe Hondsrug.

Discover the world of the dolmens

Drenthe is known for its impressive dolmens, and nowhere will you learn more about them than at the Dolmen Centre in Borger, just 4 kilometres from the park. Admire the largest dolmen in the Netherlands and discover how the first inhabitants lived thousands of years ago. Afterwards, walk past the dolmens in the surrounding area and experience for yourself why the Hondsrug has been designated a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Culture and history in Drenthe

A short distance from the park, you will find several special museums. Visit the Drents Museum in Assen, where archaeology, art and history come together. Admire highlights such as the Girl of Yde, centuries-old archaeological finds and changing exhibitions. The Westerbork Memorial Centre, around 12 kilometres from the park, is also deeply moving. Here, you can learn more about the history of the Second World War and walk around the former camp grounds. Both locations offer a valuable combination of culture, history and education. Ideal for a varied day out during your stay in Drenthe.

Cycling, nature and fun family outings

The area surrounding Lunsbergen Forest Park is a paradise for cyclists and walkers. From the park, you can cycle straight across the Drenthe Hondsrug, passing forests, heathland, fens and characteristic villages. Along the way, you will pass vast nature reserves and centuries-old dolmens. Travelling with children? Then Drouwenerzand Amusement Park and Kabouterland in Exloo are highly recommended. At Drouwenerzand, you can enjoy unlimited rides, food and drinks, while Kabouterland takes young children into a world full of gnomes, trolls, animals and playgrounds. This makes it easy to combine active days in nature with enjoyable outings for the whole family.

Summary created out of 127 reviews

Bospark Lunsbergen is beautifully situated in nature with plenty of greenery, trees and birds, ideal for walking and cycling. Guests appreciate the friendly service and good value for money, especially outside high season. However, there is regular criticism of the dated interior of the accommodations, cleaning that does not always meet expectations, and maintenance issues such as outdated kitchens and bathrooms. The swimming pool is experienced as basic and sometimes too cold, and the restaurant also receives mixed reviews regarding opening hours and service.

We won't be going there again.

Starting on a positive note: we had initially booked the wrong place, but after a quick phone call, everything was sorted out—the reservation was canceled and we got our money back. We made a new booking—a pretty last-minute one. This one cost more for a “lesser” cottage. We didn’t mind that.
I was spoken to politely and respectfully twice at the front desk, both times during business hours.
Now for the areas for improvement:
The cottage is very dated. You can tell there are rabbits living underneath it and that it’s nearing the end of its useful life. Now, this isn’t unusual in a forest. But the gutters and downspouts can be repaired, and the corners were full of cobwebs; the showerhead was covered in mold, and the sink was dusty. I don’t think you should charge extra for a follow-up cleaning under these circumstances.
I think the towels from the towel package are dried above the fryer… both packages smelled like french fries, which gave off a really gross vibe.
The electronic locks: nice idea, but they didn’t work. We discovered this in the evening, and the front desk was closed. Because of this, we couldn’t go out the next morning because we didn’t want to leave the cottage unlocked and unattended.
The front desk said they’d send someone over, but we pretty much expected to be stuck in the cottage all day until the repairman arrived.
Fortunately, he arrived fairly quickly and tightened the hinges a bit. (Tip for burglars: loosen the hinges + give the door a good yank, and you’re in.) Anyway, the door could be locked again.
We came back from dinner in the evening (in the rain), and the buttons on the door didn’t respond to touch. The door wouldn’t open. So, soaking wet, I headed to the front desk. It was closed but reachable via the intercom. I tried three times—no response. So I went to the restaurant next door… but they didn’t really have time for me because of the bingo game and said I’d be better off coming back tomorrow. I had to make quite a bit of noise before they were willing to help me. Finally, I got the physical key, and we were able to get back into our cottage, soaking wet.
When checking out, I wanted to return the key. The front desk was closed, but there were people there. After waving for 5 minutes in the rain (the intercom went unanswered again), I was able to get their attention, but the message was simple: the front desk is closed.
I hooked the key onto the doorknob, and this was the last time we’ll ever set foot on this property.
This was such a huge letdown.

Een redelijke last minute.
Dit viel me zo ontzettend vies tegen.

Beautiful park. The accommodations are all quite shaded, nestled among a mix of trees with lawns in between.
The beds are okay, and the amenities are fine. However, don’t expect luxury—especially when it comes to the restrooms (toilet & shower).
    That could be significantly better.
Especially when accommodating up to 6 people.
At the very least, an electric fan in the toilet and a shelf in the shower—where you could put your clothes while showering, for example—would be useful.
I’d also advise against this mini-market.
The rolls there are as expensive as at a gas station, but their “quality” is more reminiscent of the animal feed industry . . .
At least 95% of the guests here are from the Netherlands.
    Communication is accordingly limited.

Die Gäste kommen hier zu min. 95% aus den Niederlanden.
    Dementsprechend ist auch die Verständigung.

Great chalet, though perhaps a little dated.
But we had a really good time.
The restaurant serves delicious food, and the staff is very friendly and kind.

    Kortom,,, nooit weer!

It's actually a pretty nice park. The cabins are a bit dated, and there are some areas here and there that could use some maintenance. The sites are nice and spacious, though, and beautifully situated under the trees. There's a small swimming pool. It's a great place to stay if you're on a tight budget.
