Hunze Park is located in the heart of the Drenthe Dog Ridge, in the Netherlands' only geopark. This means burial mounds, small heathland ponds and dolmens within cycling distance of the front door. Visit one of the many amusement parks

Drouwenerzand amusement park is just a stone's throw from the park. Here you will find water slides and a large indoor play paradise. Less than half an hour from the park is Kabouterland - in the heart of Exloo - with gnomes, trolls, animals and plenty of play opportunities. Sprookjeshof amusement park is 14 km from the park and is best known for its fairy-tale forest, playground and petting zoo. In short, lots of fun for a day out with the children.

Climb through the treetops at the Treetop Trail

The Treetop Trail Outdoor Centre is about 10 km from the park. You walk through the treetops via suspension bridges and wooden platforms, up to around 20 metres high, face to face with birds and squirrels. The trail is suitable for different age groups and offers a good view over the forests of Drenthe. Both guided tours and self-guided walks are possible. Allow one to one and a half hours for a leisurely walk.

Dive into the history of Westerbork Camp

Westerbork Camp Memorial Centre is located about 24 km from Gasselternijveen, in the middle of the Drenthe landscape. You walk across the former camp grounds, through which more than one hundred thousand people passed during the Second World War. The museum tells this history through archival material, personal stories and an extensive outdoor exhibition with restored buildings and railway carriages. Those who take an afternoon can explore both the museum and the grounds thoroughly. The combination of outdoors and indoors makes the visit impressive without feeling overwhelming. Visit the museum, walk around the camp grounds free of charge, or join a guided tour.

Cycling along the Hunze Valley and dolmens

The Hunze stream valley begins almost directly behind Gasselternijveen and is one of the most beautiful cycling areas in Drenthe. Rent a bike and ride past hay meadows, ponds and along narrow forest roads that become densely overgrown in summer. The cycling network in the valley connects to the province's wider junction network, allowing you to create your own routes. Those who cycle a little further will pass the villages of Gasselternijveenschemond and Drouwen, where you can relax at a terrace café. The route is relatively flat. If you still have time - visit the Hunebed Centre in Borger: a museum about prehistory, where you will find the Netherlands' largest dolmen and discover how the dolmen builders lived. A must-visit in Drenthe, the Netherlands' prehistoric province!

    We booked a weekend with family at Meander, a 36-person house. The good thing was that the house was really spacious. The bedrooms were roomy, and each room had its own bathroom with a toilet. The upper floor was great for the kids to hang out. But that’s about it. Everything was incredibly filthy. The shower curtains were torn or missing, so the … bathroom was a mess. We reported the issue at the front desk, but nothing was done about it. Everything looks so filthy that it’s deeply saddening that Landal dares to rent it out in this condition. The curtains wouldn’t close, and there’s mold on the cutting boards. CONCLUSION: “Never again.”

    Weekend geboekt met familie in een 36 persoons huis Meander. Het positieve was dat er echt ruimte in het huis zat. De slaapkamers waren ruim en elke kamer had een eigen badkamer met toilet. De bovenverdieping was prima om te chillen voor kinderen. Maar dan houdt het ook wel op. Alles was ontzettend smerig. De douchegordijnen waren uitgescheurd of afwezig zodat de badkamer blank stond. Klacht gemeld aan de balie en er werd niets mee gedaan. Alles ziet er zo ranzig uit dat het diep triest is dat Landal het in deze staat durft te verhuren. Gordijnen konden niet dicht en de schimmel staat op de snijplanken. CONCLUSIE "nooit weer"

    The rooms are dirty, and we had to wait four hours for our house; many things are broken, like part of the loft bed and the floor; everything is crammed together (the rooms are way too small and cramped); there are spiders and moths everywhere,it stinks of toilet water and trash—not a good place; you don’t feel comfortable here in the evening.

    We spent a weekend at one of the group accommodations. Overall, it wasn’t clean when we arrived, and there were some issues here and there. The opening hours for the facilities are incorrect. On Saturday, the pool didn’t open until 1:00 p.m., even though it was supposed to open at 10:00 a.m. On Sunday, there was no manager at the park; the service … desk was closed all day, as was the canoe rental, even though a sign in the window indicated that the rental should have been open. The telecom representative couldn’t help us because he was on the other side of the country.

    We waren een weekend in 1 van de groepsaccommodaties. Over het algemeen was het niet schoon bij aankomst en verder waren er her en der wel gebreken. De openingstijden van de faciliteiten kloppen niet. Zaterdag ging het zwembad pas om 1 uur open terwijl 10 aangekondigd was. Op zondag was er geen beheerder op het park, het servicepunt was de hele dag dicht, kano verhuur ook, ook als stond op het raam dat de verhuur open zou moeten zijn. De meneer van de telecom heeft ons niet verder geholpen omdat hij aan de andere kant van het land zat.
