A Weekend with a Major Setback August 14–16, 2026

We recently spent a camping weekend at De Toffe Peer with our caravan, along with our daughter, her partner, and our granddaughter. Thanks to the beautiful weather and the company, we had a wonderful time together. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about the campground itself. The way everything was organized left us with a particularly disappointing and unwelcoming impression.

Our other daughter and her partner rented a cottage for one night for €122. Upon arrival, the bedding was on the table, so they had to make the bed themselves. There were no towels, and the advertised welcome gift turned out to be nothing more than a small bottle of shampoo and a small bottle of soap. In addition, they had mentioned fresh eggs and a free tour of the vineyard. The eggs were nowhere to be found. After we inquired, they finally brought four eggs. The tour was canceled due to an event. No alternative or any form of compensation was offered.

The electricity bill also raised some questions. We stayed two nights with our camper and paid an extra €5 for electricity, just like our daughter, who was also there with her camper. Our other daughter and her partner rented a cottage for one night for €122 and were also charged an extra €5, even though they had barely used any electricity. There was no shower or toilet, so they had to use the restroom building next to the cottage. When we asked for a breakdown of the bill, including the starting and ending meter readings for the electricity, we were told that this would be a lot of work and therefore couldn’t be done. Subsequently, they did refund the money to us “as a gesture of goodwill.”

Although it’s a small amount, this says a lot to us about how guests are treated. Communication was unclear, the promised extras weren’t delivered, and we saw little sign of genuine hospitality. We had our enjoyable weekend entirely to thank each other for, not the campground.

For us, this was a disappointing experience. We’ve been there once, but never again.

We stayed (for too short a time) one night at site 9b with our family at site 9a next to us. We received a friendly and warm welcome. We took part in the guided tour, which was very informative for us. It’s also wonderful to see how this place got off the ground. Our compliments. It’s a great combination with camping. The tasting session afterward, complete with a snack platter, was also really fun, cozy, and delicious. We had an absolutely wonderful time and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the owners and staff.
And of course, we bought the sparkling Pearl😋
