AquaZoo Friesland is an animal park in Leeuwarden, about a 40-minute drive from the glamping in Rohel. The park specializes in aquatic animals. The park has different habitats where animals live, such as the "Wad" where you can see different shorebirds, the "Coral Reef" where tropical fish swim and the "Sea Lion Theater" where sea lions give a show. You can take a tour of Douwe Egberts' museum, learn more about the history of coffee and, of course, have a nice cup of coffee at the end. The city has a cozy and attractive center with many nice restaurants, cafes and stores. Many events are held in the summer, such as the Frisian Balloon Festival and the Jouster Merke, a traditional folk festival. During the Balloon Festival, about 35 hot air balloons take off and various other activities are organized.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The owners are very hospitable. We were given a lovely spot for our tent in the front yard, where it was quiet and there was more than enough space for the kids to play soccer and for our teenagers to get away from me if they wanted to. The showers and other facilities work great. We thought the horses around us … were really fun, and the riding lesson was a highlight of the vacation for me. There’s a trampoline, a haystack to climb, SUPs for rent on the lake, you can swim and bike nearby, and there are plenty of villages and towns in the area. The hares in the meadows, the swallows, bats, and even owls were also a special sight. We live in London, and for city folks, this is truly a complete reset. We’ll definitely be back here.

We hebben hier echt genoten. De eigenaren zijn gastvrij. We kregen een heerlijk plekje voor onze tent in de voortuin waar het rustig was met meer dan genoeg ruimte voor de kinderen om te voetballen en voor onze tieners om bij mij vandaan te zijn als ze wilden. De douches en andere faciliteiten werken prima. We vonden de paarden om ons heen superleuk en de rijles was een hoogtepunt van de vakantie voor me. Er is een, trampoline, een hooiberg om te beklimmen, SUPs te huur voor het meer, je kan zwemmen en fietsen in de buurt en er zijn genoeg dorpjes en steden in de buurt. De hazen in de weilanden, de zwaluwen, vleermuizen en zelfs uilen waren ook bijzonder om te zien. We wonen in London en voor stadsmensen is dit echt een totale reset. We komen zeker terug hier.

We stayed in the Clamping tent for 13 days. It was a great stay! The tent has everything you need, and you can even cook there using a gas stove. The kids were able to take riding lessons and go on trail rides regularly. You should definitely rent bikes while you’re there if you’re not traveling by car, since the nearest supermarket is about 4 km … away. The owner, Eddy Eefting, will help you arrange it. The bikes were even delivered to us.
While you’re there, it’s worth visiting Joure or taking the train from Heerenveen to Leeuwarden. Both are great cities worth seeing. Leeuwarden has so much to offer!
You can walk to a beautiful swimming spot on the Tjeukemeer. However, you can stand anywhere there because the water is very shallow. The deepest point is 2 meters.

Wir waren für 13 Tage im clamping Zelt. Der Aufenthalt war toll! Im Zelt hat man alles was man benötigt und kann dort selbst mit Gas kochen. Die Kinder konnten regelmäßig am Reitunterricht und Ausritten teilnehmen. Man sollte sich vor Ort auf jeden Fall Fahrräder ausleihen, wenn man nicht mit Auto anreist, denn der nächste Supermarkt ist ca. 4 km entfernt. Der Inhaber Eddy Eefting hilft einem beim organisieren. Die Fahrräder wurden uns dann sogar geliefert.
Vor Ort lohnt sich der Besuch in Joure oder mit der Bahn von Heerenveen nach Leeuwarden. Beides tolle sehenswerte Städte. Leeuwarden hat sehr viel zu bieten!
Fußläufig kann man eine schöne Badestelle am Tjeukemeer erreichen. Allerdings kann man dort überall stehen, da das Wasser sehr flach ist. Tiefste Stelle 2 Meter.
Auf dem Campingplatz hat man viele Ruhe aber die Umgebung bietet auch einiges. Als wir dort waren, fand das friesische Heißluftballonfest Stadt. Das war wirklich schön! Es sind auch viele Kinder auf dem Campingplatz. -
