Cycle along the North Holland coast

The cycling network around Callantsoog is a continuous chain of coastal paths, dyke routes and polder lanes. Head north towards Den Helder or south via Petten and Camperduin: in both directions, you have the sea on one side and farmland on the other. The junction network makes navigation easy. Rent a bike at the campsite and you can cycle straight into the Zijpe polder, where the horizon is wider than you might expect.

Taste Dutch wine at Koopman Vineyard

Koopman Vineyard is located in the North Holland polder and is one of the few vineyards in the region. Visit the vineyard during the growing season and see how the grapes ripen in a landscape you would not immediately associate with wine: flat, with a sea breeze that makes the leaves move. Tastings are available, introducing you to white and rosé wines pressed on site. A visit also makes an ideal stop during a cycling tour through the polder.

Cross over to Texel

From Den Helder, you can reach Texel, the largest Wadden Island in the Netherlands, by ferry in just twenty minutes. Rent a bike and discover expansive dune landscapes, charming villages, sheep pastures and distinctive dykes. Also visit Ecomare, where you can get to know seals, porpoises and the unique nature of the Wadden Sea up close. Along the way, you will find welcoming beach pavilions and beautiful viewpoints overlooking the sea. Whether you choose an active cycling trip, a beach walk or a relaxing lunch with views of the Wadden Sea, a day on Texel is a perfect addition to your holiday. During the high season, please allow for some extra waiting time at the ferry.

Surfing and water sports at Callantsoog

The North Holland coast near Callantsoog is a popular destination for surfers and other water sports enthusiasts. Thanks to the constant sea breeze and waves, this is an excellent place to learn to surf, bodyboard or further develop your surfing skills. During the season, several surf schools operate at the Callantsoog Noord beach access point, offering lessons and equipment rental for both beginners and advanced surfers. Kitesurfers also flock to the coast thanks to the favourable wind conditions. Prefer to keep both feet on the sand? Then take a long beach walk, enjoy the view over the North Sea or settle down at one of the welcoming beach pavilions. This is how you combine sport, relaxation and the true holiday feeling during a wonderful day by the sea.

Summary created out of 115 reviews

The park is within cycling distance of the sea (approx. 15-20 minutes on foot) and offers spacious pitches with electricity and water. Guests particularly appreciate the location, extensive play facilities for children, and friendly staff. Sanitary facilities are cleaned daily, though cleanliness depends heavily on guests themselves. Points of concern include the pool being too small with inconsistent hygiene, limited shop facilities (former supermarket replaced by a minimarket with minimal selection), and recent disruption from construction works starting at 7am.

We rented a very nice cottage for a long weekend; one can also come here with a tent. Very nice atmosphere, lovely people all around.
Clean, quiet, pleasant and relaxing, even if there were a lot of children playing everywhere.
20-25 minutes walk to the beach.

I've been to the campground many times before. But the restroom in Building 2 is just unbelievably dirty—at any time of day. And this isn't just a day's worth of dirt. You wouldn't want to take a shower or use the restroom here. The water constantly cuts out after 2 seconds and then doesn’t come back on for minutes at a time. The operator needs to do something about this!!!!!!

No supervision in the pool; the shower turns off after 30 seconds because the sensors aren't positioned correctly; the showerheads are hung too low, making you feel like you're showering with a garden hose; men’s restroom toilets aren’t cleaned, and the sinks aren’t cleaned either; a cappuccino consists of just 3 tiny sips; the shop is ridiculously expensive—3 croissants, 2 chocolate rolls, and 6 eggs cost €18! There’s no pool supervision, so the kids climb on top of everything and, if they feel like it, will just jump right on your neck because they want to jump. There’s a lot of potential here, but that won’t happen until Marvilla or RCN decides to buy this campground. For now, take my advice to heart and head somewhere else instead.
