We brought our own camping gear. We arranged for my daughter to ride a pony—she usually rides at a riding school. After her first ride to see if the pony was a good fit, she said she had trouble keeping up with the rhythm of standing and sitting. Right away, Farmer Jan gave her a piece of his mind. He asked if she could actually ride at all, and if she couldn’t handle this pony, she couldn’t ride any pony. He told her she should take a lesson—so she signed up for a “great” lesson for €30. Afterward, she got back on the same pony. She had trouble saddling it. Jan asked how it was going, and she said she wasn’t getting the hang of it. Well, then he went on a tirade: “How old are you? You act like you’re 2.5. You’re not worth a horse. You’ve got a big mouth. You’d better quit riding. You’re dragging your friends down. You’re way too hyper.” My daughter couldn’t do everything on her own, that’s true, but to lash out like that at an 8-year-old who’s trying her best? Maybe a clear explanation beforehand would have been better. Then we wouldn’t have chosen a pony that needed assistance. Other than that, a great campground! Plenty to do. Too bad about the two incidents. Farmcamps itself is a really great concept. And definitely worth recommending.
