Luxury camping at Landal Park Wijdenes on the Markermeer

Park Wijdenes is located at the foot of the West Frisian Ring Dike, the oldest dike in the Netherlands, which separates the park from the Markermeer. It is a car-free, small-scale park that takes sustainability seriously: no gas connection, but solar panels. From the accommodations you look out over the polders or the dike. At the park you can rent a bicycle to explore the surroundings: over the dike to Hoorn or Enkhuizen, or back through the polder. Golfers will find a 18-hole golf course with a driving range nearby. There is a playground for children. The Grab & Go at the park serves coffee, freshly made sandwiches and soup, and you can also order a complete gourmet or BBQ package. The Markermeer offers space for kitesurfing and sailing. The region has flower bulb fields, stolp farms, windmills and historic cities such as Enkhuizen and Hoorn. Radboud Castle, a short distance away, takes you back to the Middle Ages.

Surroundings

Water fun on the Markermeer

Park Wijdenes is located directly on the Markermeer, an ideal destination for lovers of water, nature and peace. Here you can enjoy swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, kayaking or taking a relaxing walk along the dike with a view over the water. Sport anglers will also find plenty of opportunities on the shores of the lake. In the surrounding area there are attractive harbour towns such as Hoorn, Enkhuizen and Medemblik, where you can enjoy historic streets, cosy terraces and marinas. Thanks to the combination of water recreation, nature and characteristic villages, the Markermeer is a wonderful place for a varied holiday.

Discover the historic center of Hoorn

Hoorn was once one of the most powerful trading cities of the Republic, and you can still see that reflected in the city center. You walk past historic ships in the harbor, grab a seat on a terrace at the Roode Steen, and then dive into the narrow streets. Along the way, you read stories about the VOC era that began here on façades and street signs. After wandering around, choose one of the restaurants for a late lunch or an early dinner.

Walk along the West Frisian Ring Dike

Three walking routes depart almost directly from the village of Wijdenes: along the Markermeer, through historic village ribbons and over the West Frisian Ring Dike. Along the way you pass farmhouses, windmills and expansive polders stretching as far as you can see. The routes are well signposted and connect to one another, so you can decide the length yourself. Please note: dogs are not allowed on these routes.

Visit Enkhuizen by bike or boat

Enkhuizen is a former VOC city that has largely preserved its seventeenth-century character. Inside the old fortress wall you will find dozens of national monuments and street names that directly refer back to the trading period. You can stroll past special shops, step into a museum or find a terrace by the harbour. If you come by bike, you will ride along the dike with a view over the IJsselmeer. If you come by boat, you will dock in the historic harbour itself.
