Toll Pond

There’s nothing wrong with the park itself, but we had cottage 210—it looked nice, but we couldn’t see outside because the windows were filthy, both inside and out. But I’d requested a cottage without a dock when I booked—too bad, though—it ended up being a shared dock that was way above the water level, so I couldn’t land any carp from the dock. … I had to slide down a steep embankment to land the carp—what a nightmare! My knee gave out, but I still managed to . But just when you think that’s the end of it, the next day four men arrive next to us who also plan to fish from the shared dock. That’s not going to work, though, because they set up eight rods under the dock and the rest to the right,so they were basically casting right over my lines. I said something about it, but the guys didn’t care. So my week of fishing was quickly ruined. Oh, and it’s forbidden to use bait boats—well, I can tell you it’s even busier there than the Port of Rotterdam. They’ve never heard of enforcement; if you go fishing there, anything goes. They have fishing regulations, but nobody follows them. I went to the reception desk, left early, and complained about the dangerous situation at the docks and the lack of oversight at the fishing pond. I’m never going back there. I’m a true sport fisherman—I fish as stated in the regulations—but, again, people do whatever they want there. If you go fishing there, you’ll see lots of fish with parrot beaks—it’s really a shame for those fish. Read more Show less

A really nice park—nice and quiet at this time of year, with plenty of opportunities to go for walks with my dog, Buddy.

Last summer, I was able to spend a few days on vacation here in a tiny house

. The tiny house was very clean, as was the park itself. The water in the Tolplas is also very clean for an outdoor body of water.

The only downside to the park, in my opinion, was that we wanted to go fishing, but when you’re staying in a tiny house, you … don’t have a spot right by the water. We found two spots in the entire park where you could fish. But that didn’t work with a regular fishing rod. Because the water level was low, a regular rod wouldn’t reach far enough into the water to give you a chance of catching anything.

So, to really enjoy fishing, you’ll need to rent a spot that includes a dock right by the water. Unfortunately, I didn’t find that information very clear on the website.

There’s a small beach where you can swim. It’s nice and quiet there. Very kid-friendly with plenty of play areas. You can also buy toys and basic groceries at the mini-shop. Other than that, the nearest supermarket isn’t really that close, so you’ll need a car or bring enough groceries with you.

The restaurant was also absolutely fantastic. But I’ll write a separate review for that: Restaurant Tolplas 😄

A nicely designed park! We stayed in a 4-person cottage right on the lake, which was a pleasure even in the rain thanks to the beautiful view. There was more than enough to do for the kids, and we really liked the restaurant as well. There’s also plenty to do in the surrounding area—we were pleasantly surprised by the pizzeria in Den Ham.
We’d definitely go back!
